Book Description
Prick is my first book, written for National Novel Writing Month in 2011, though I did To be quite honest, it is a sort of low brow piece of meta-fiction, as in the subject or topic of the book is the book's writing, and the book is simply my day to day: written often in the food court of a dying mall where silver haired people ate cheeseburgers with glazed over eyes; typed late into the night after getting home late from work, after a day of literary theory and cleaning up junk at the behest of managers with hooves just so Santa and his unholy denizens of hell will return to help our year end sales; written at a time when I really didn't have any friends, just one self-professed ?degenerate? drinking whiskey while I drank iced tea; written over the years where I would feel compelled by women, but my past, my diagnosis, my economic status, and my morbid introversion just left me tongue tied with my wishes, my longings in mute chaos, as I would pepper my book with descriptions of porn scenes. Memoir.

Book Description
Folk is the dusk, that twilight hour when the wind blows cooler and the lightning bugs dance. Folk is seeing the forest with all of it's enchantments through the eyes of a child and hearing the leaves whisper. Folk is the moonlight reaching down to caress the face of the Earth on a crisp autumn night. Folk is Grandfather's stories of old and Grandmother's wisdom. Folk is in our dreams and in our veins, it lives within our unpolluted thoughts. Folk is the understanding of something larger than one's self. It is the simplest form of who we are.

Book Description
"Travel is no longer a past-time but a colossal industry, arguably one of the biggest in the world and second only to oil in importance for many poor countries. One out of 12 people in the world are employed by the tourism industry which contributes $6.5 trillion to the world's economy. To investigate the size and effect of this new industry, Elizabeth Becker traveled the globe. She speaks to the Minister of Tourism of Zambia who thinks licensing foreigners to kill wild animals is a good way to make money and then to a Zambian travel guide who takes her to see the rare endangered sable antelope. She travels to Venice where community groups are fighting to stop the tourism industry from pushing them out of their homes, to France where officials have made tourism their number one industry to save their cultural heritage; and on cruises speaking to waiters who earn $60 a month--then on to Miami to interview their CEO. Becker's sharp depiction reveals travel as a product; nations as stewards. Seeing the tourism industry from the inside out, the world offers a dizzying range of travel options but very few quiet getaways"--

Book Description
Artists and filmmakers in the early twentieth century reshaped our vision of the American West. In particular, the Taos Society of Artists and the California-based artist Maynard Dixon departed from the legendary depiction of the “Wild West” and fostered new images, or brands, for western art. This volume, illustrated with more than 150 images, examines select paintings and films to demonstrate how these artists both enhanced and contradicted earlier representations of the West. Prior to this period, American art tended to portray the West as a wild frontier with untamed lands and peoples. Renowned artists such as Henry Farny and Frederic Remington set their work in the past, invoking an environment immersed in conflict and violence. This trademark perspective began to change, however, when artists enamored with the Southwest stamped a new imprint on their paintings. The contributors to this volume illuminate the complex ways in which early-twentieth-century artists, as well as filmmakers, evoked a southwestern environment not just suspended in time but also permanent rather than transient. Yet, as the authors also reveal, these artists were not entirely immune to the siren call of the vanishing West, and their portrayal of peaceful yet “exotic” Native Americans was an expansion rather than a dismissal of earlier tropes. Both brands cast a romantic spell on the West, and both have been seared into public consciousness. Branding the American West is published in association with the Brigham Young University Museum of Art, Provo, Utah, and the Stark Museum of Art, Orange, Texas.
