Book Description
Following the Governments health reforms in 1991 rationing has been put firmly on the agenda. This book identifies and clarifies the numerous political and ethical issues surrounding rationing in healthcare. Drawing upon international examples it offers a critical overview of the approaches to rationing and makes practical proposals for its management. Desperately Seeking Solutions challenges the assumption that all health services are inherently subject to rationing as demand invariably outstrips supply and examines this within a comparative framework. The author critically evaluates the extent to which rationing has always existed and should exist within the NHS, although until recently it operated on an implicit rather than explicit basis and was bound up with clinical judgements rather than purely financial considerations. The author questions whether calls for explicit rationing are actually desirable and potentially feasible.

Book Description
A Rough Trade Book of the Year 'From lists to experiences and stories, there are no rules. A good song is a good song whoever writes it and however the writing happens.' Over the past three decades, Tim Burgess has cultivated a lyrical style that is equal parts searing, elusive and raw. Brimming with nods to an eclectic array of influences, from French chanson to East Coast rap, his words provide vivid snapshots of modern life, its highs and lows, and the things we do to get by. For the first time Tim's collected lyrics are accompanied by his revealing commentary, featuring backstage anecdotes, advice on how to conjure up the music muse, poignant reflections - and insight into a very idiosyncratic songwriting process. One Two Another chronicles the evolution of Tim's songwriting and reveals the method behind the madness. 'Tim Burgess is a crusader and vinyl's epic voyager. He knows why pop's art, a culture and a cure. Learn and listen. He knows good things' Johnny Marr 'You can't feel blue around Tim. He makes you feel happy, not just about music but about life. Even the most cynical of souls (mine) become infected by his gorgeous energy. Plus he gives good vinyl' Sharon Horgan

Book Description
Reclaim Your Family with Your Own Family Constitution Both manifesto and handbook, DESPERATELY SEEKING PARENTS: Why Your Child Needs a Parent in Charge and How to Become One calls all parents to reclaim their position of authority in the home. Emphasizing that todays children need (and ultimately want) parents to assert their sovereignty and control in a loving and consistent manner, Dr. Paterno illustrates how to become a Parent in Charge by using simple, proven methods. The first parenting book to utilize the Family Constitution, Dr. Paterno explicitly champions parents rights, simplifies parental expectations and rewards children can earn, and rejects the current trend of reducing expectations because of so-called diseases, disorders, and disabilities. Provocative, but proven and practical, Dr. Paterno will help you reclaim your family by becoming the vital, valid source of love and authority you were meant to be for your children. Praise for DESPERATELY SEEKING PARENTS Take heed, you and your child are in good hands with the advice that rests between the pages of this wonderful book. Thank the good Lord that there is a writer with the scholarship and good sense to write a book that parents can safely rely on. David Stein, Ph.D., author of Unraveling the ADD/ADHD Fiasco and Ritalin is Not the Answer If every parent read this book and incorporated Dr. Paternos principles and techniques, every pediatricians office would see far fewer children with behavior problems. Colette Sabbagh, M.D., Pediatrician, Bangor, Maine Dr. Paterno has managed to squeeze 3,000 years of common sense and experience, a command of child development and behavioral theory, tons of wit and humor, and dozens of practical solutions into this thoroughly readable parenting guide. Toby Tyler Watson, Psy.D., Executive Director, International Center for the Study of Psychiatry & Psychology
