Book Description
High-technology industries using plastic deformation demand soundly-based economical decisions in manufacturing design and product testing, and the unified constitutive laws of plastic deformation give researchers aguideline to use in making these decisions. This book provides extensive guidance in low cost manufacturing without the loss of product quality. Each highly detailed chapter of Unified Constitutive Laws of Plastic Deformation focuses on a distinct set of defining equations. Topics covered include anisotropic and viscoplastic flow, and the overall kinetics and thermodynamics of deformation. This important book deals with a prime topic in materials science and engineering, and will be of great use toboth researchers and graduate students. - Describes the theory and applications of the constitutive law of plastic deformation for materials testing - Examines the constitutive law of plastic deformation as it applies to process and product design - Includes a program on disk for the determination and development of the constitutive law of plastic deformation - Considers economical design and testing methods

Book Description
This book walks you through the fundamental deformation and damage mechanisms. It lends the reader the key to open the doors into the maze of deformation/fracture phenomena under various loading conditions. Furthermore it provides the solution method to material engineering design and analysis problems, for those working in the aerospace, automotive or energy industries. The book introduces the integrated creep-fatigue theory (ICFT) that considers holistic damage evolution from surface/subsurface crack nucleation to propagation in coalescence with internally-distributed damage/discontinuities.

Book Description
This volume "Deformation of Ceramic Materials II" constitutes the proceedings of an international symposium held at The Pennsyl vania State University, University Park, PA on July 20, 21, and 22, 1983. It includes studies of semiconductors and minerals which are closely related to ceramic materials. The initial conference on this topic was held in 1974 at Penn State and the proceedings were published in the volume entitled "Deformation of Ceramic Materials." This conference emphasized the deformation behavior of crystals and po1ycrysta11ine and polyphase ceramics with internationally recognized authorities as keynote lecturers on the major subtopics. Several papers dealing with cavity nucleation and creep crack growth represent a major new research thrust in ceramics since the first conference. This collection of papers represents the state-of-the art of our understanding of the plastic deformation behavior of ceramics and the crystals of which they are composed. We are grateful for the suggestions of our International Advisory Committee .in recommending experts in their respective countries to participate. We are particularly grateful that the organizers of the previous Dislocation-Point Defect Interaction Workshops agreed to participate in the Penn State Symposium as an alternative at the suggestion of Prof. A. H. Heuer. We acknowledge the financial support of the National Science Foundation for this conference.

Book Description
Having a good understanding of a construction material's performance under different conditions is essential for helping engineers in selecting the right type of material for a job and for setting design specifications. Keeping abreast of the latest research is an important part of this. The deformation and processing of structural materials is divided into eight chapters, each one exploring a material's processing and deformation behaviour. They also consider how the microstructural composition of materials is affected by processing and what influence this has on its subsequent in situ performance. The materials and behaviours looked at in the chapters include: aluminium and its alloys; magnesium alloys; ferrous alloys; superalloys (Ni-based alloys); semisolid metal (SSM) processing of metallic alloys; plastic deformation of intermetallic alloys; metal matrix composites (MMCs); and fine grain superplasticity in SP materials. The first of its kind to give comprehensive coverage to the subject, The deformation and processing of structural materials is a valuable resource for engineers, researchers in mechanical, civil and structural engineering. - Contains research on the preformance of materials - Valuable resource for researchers in mechanical, civil and structural engineering - Comprehensive coverage to the deformation and processing of all types of structural materials

Book Description
Offers data, examples, and applications supporting the use of the mechanical threshold stress (MTS) model Written by Paul S. Follansbee, an international authority in the field, this book explores the underlying theory, mechanistic basis, and implementation of the mechanical threshold stress (MTS) model. Readers are introduced to such key topics as mechanical testing, crystal structure, thermodynamics, dislocation motion, dislocation–obstacle interactions, hardening through dislocation accumulation, and deformation kinetics. The models described in this book support the emerging theme of Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) by offering a foundation for the bridge between length scales characterizing the mesoscale (mechanistic) and the macroscopic. Fundamentals of Strength begins with a chapter that introduces various approaches to measuring the strength of metals. Next, it covers: Structure and bonding Contributions to strength Dislocation–obstacle interactions Constitutive law for metal deformation Further MTS model developments Data analysis: deriving MTS model parameters The next group of chapters examines the application of the MTS model to copper and nickel, BCC metals and alloys, HCP metals and alloys, austenitic stainless steels, and heavily deformed metals. The final chapter offers suggestions for the continued development and application of the MTS model. To help readers fully understand the application of the MTS model, the author presents two fictional materials along with extensive data sets. In addition, end-of-chapter exercises give readers the opportunity to apply the models themselves using a variety of data sets. Appropriate for both students and materials researchers, Fundamentals of Strength goes beyond theory, offering readers a model that is fully supported with examples and applications.
