Book Description
Halides continue to be an increasingly important industrial engineering resource: as electrolytes, and in heat-treatment baths on the one hand, and as the basis of exotic devices in the fields of optics, electronics, etc., on the other. At both of these extremes, the gross or detailed movements of ions, respectively, are important factors. There may also be an important geological need for a knowledge of halide diffusion data, in an era when the migration – or not - of various waste materials, including nuclear, through natural seams of halide-based minerals is of great concern.

Book Description
The present issue comprises a compilation of data on diffusion in halides in either the crystalline or molten state; that is, diffusion in aqueous systems is not covered. The data cover a period of almost 50 years: from 1965 to the beginning of 2014. The over 700 entries, 205 tables and 34 figures will provide an invaluable wealth of information on diffusion in this class of material. Keyword: Diffusion, Halides This compilation summarizes research findings from 703 studies on diffusion in bromides, chlorides, fluorides, and iodides. The entries provide numeric tables or graphs of the results where appropriate along with a detailed citation for accessing the full article. Some of the articles were published as far back as 1969. Three indexes allow searching by author, material, or keyword. -- Chemistry.

Book Description
This report examines point defects in ice: molecular defects (vacancies and interstitials), protonic point defects (ions and Bjerrum defects) and electronic point defects (solvated electrons and radicals). Experimental results and theoretical models of the defects' atomic and electronic structures, energies and mobilities are reviewed. Special attention is given to the results of studies from the last two decades. Among the experimental techniques under consideration are nuclear magnetic resonance, X-rays topography, electron spin resonance, measurements of ice conductivity and dielectric permittivity, spectra of optical absorption and photoluminescence and measurements of diffusion coefficients of the oxygen and hydrogen isotopes in ice. Ab initio calculations, computer simulations, Jaccard's theory and soliton models are used to discuss the defects' structures and their properties. Ice, Molecular structure, Ice physics, Point defects.

Book Description
Energy, and especially its minimization, are factors which govern all physical processes. Given sufficient time and thermal activation, for instance, grain boundaries will move so as to tend towards a regular array of 14-sided grains. When a grain boundary intercepts a surface, the energies of the surface and boundary govern the precise form of the triple-point. Regions of mismatch within the solid, especially those associated with dislocations, interfere with dislocation cross-slip and thereby affect mechanical properties. The present volume comprises a compilation of measured values of the energies of various planar defects in solids: including grain boundaries, stacking-faults, twins, etc. for a wide range of material groups: metals, semiconductors, oxides, carbides, diamond, graphite, nitrides, halides, ice, and various minerals. The 451 entries cover the period from 1958 to 2014.
