Todo conocimiento se funda en presuposiciones básicas. Estas no son verdades absolutas, sino interpretaciones. Dichas interpretaciones no pueden ser demostradas, sino que se eligen. La teología moderna y posmoderna es una construcción que se ha basado en una serie de presuposiciones que no se han interpretado desde la Biblia, sino desde la filosofía y la ciencia moderna. Otra fuente de estas interpretaciones es la tradición teológica. Aunque la totalidad de la comunidad teológica elija seguir las mismas interpretaciones de las presuposiciones, sigue siendo una elección y, por tanto, criticable y revisable. El objetivo de la presente obra es analizar el discurso teológico moderno y posmoderno de tal forma que se puedan ver sus cimientos más básicos. El propósito más específico es mostrar que estos cimientos están formados por una interpretación de las presuposiciones básicas que no procede de las Escrituras. En consecuencia, si quiere ser cristiana bíblica, la teología debe deconstruir su discurso, cambiar la interpretación de sus presupuestos básicos por una interpretación bíblica de estos y volver a construir todo el edificio. Esta obra se refiere a las presuposiciones que asume todo discurso teológico, ya sea el de la teología sistemática, como el de la teología doctrinal y el de la exégesis bíblica.

La filosofía no es la razón sin fe; y la Biblia no es la fe sin razón. Tanto la filosofía como la Biblia son productos de la mente, los cuales, para ser producidos, requirieron —como cualquier otro producto de la mente— dar por supuestas ciertas ideas que no se ponen en discusión, sino que constituyen aquello de lo que se parte y que ya no se puede discutir. La presente obra estudia los supuestos básicos que los filósofos griegos dieron por sentados para producir sus teorías filosóficas. También estudia los supuestos básicos que la mente divina da por sentados en la revelación contenida en la Biblia. Finalmente, trata de mostrar que la interpretación de las doctrinas cristianas y la construcción de la teología en el catolicismo y en el protestantismo no se fundaron en los supuestos bíblicos, sino en los filosóficos. Muchas obras han mostrado la influencia griega en el cristianismo, pero lo han hecho al nivel de los conceptos e ideas explícitamente formulados. Esta obra trata de mostrar que lo que el cristianismo adoptó de la filosofía no son algunas ideas o conceptos, sino los supuestos últimos de pensamiento, que siempre quedaron implícitos e incuestionados. Lo que, de últimas, se trata de sacar a la luz es que, como los grandes teólogos cristianos dieron por sentado que la Biblia piensa de la misma manera que la filosofía, la forma en que interpretaron las doctrinas y la Biblia, y la manera en que construyeron la teología carece totalmente de base bíblica.

There are certain things that can be explained and certain things that cannot be explained. This book is about the latter. It is a book about death: how death interrupts and influences the reflection on the self. It is a book about God: a detailed and critical discussion on how Kierkegaard and Derrida apply the concept of God in their philosophical reflections. The most ground-breaking analysis concerns the famous passage on the self (A.A) in The Sickness unto Death, where the author combines logical, rhetorical and dialectical means to establish a new perspective on Kierkegaard's thinking in general. The Cartesian doubt then constitutes a common trait for his detailed and rigorous analysis of Derrida and Kierkegaard on death, madness, faith, and rationality - showing how they both seek to break up the Hegelian Aufhebung from within, but still remain dependent on Hegel. After Kierkegaard and Derrida, the certainty and total uncertainty of death - and of God as infinite other - gives the self a basic, though non-foundational, responsibility. The significance of this responsibility, of this other, of this death, requires sustained and thorough consideration. Where others mark a conclusion, this book therefore marks a point of departure: reflecting on oneself at the graveside of a dead man - thus introducing an Autopsia.
