Book Description
Sara Porter had one wealthy relative and one shot at an inheritance. That the inheritance turns out to be a box of disintegrating mementos seems perfectly in sync with the rest of Saras unraveling personal life. At first, the keepsakes seem meaningless. When darker mementos emerge that suggest Saras aunt was involved in an unsolved murder in a lakeside cottage in the 1940s, she realizes that her aunt left her the souvenirs for a reason. Murder in the past collides with murder in the present when Sara becomes the only suspect in the high-profile murder of her ex-husbands pregnant girlfriend. Detective Keith Carson, always proud of his reputation as the Toronto Murder Squads arrow-straight guy, finds his personal mission at odds with his professional one. His instinct tells him Sara is innocent, and he risks his career to clear her. Carson races against a fellow detective and rival who is equally determined to prove Sara guilty and Carson incompetent. While Carson searches for evidence to prove Sara innocent, she does the same for her aunt. When the two investigations intersect, it seems impossible, yet certain, that the two murders are linked. Twisted minds and twisted motives create a hazardous path to the truth.

Book Description
FIFTEEN CRIME AND MYSTERY STORIES THAT WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH UNTIL YOU DIE… Humor is often found in unlikely places, and nowhere is that more evident than in the Mystery Writers of America’s latest classic anthology, edited by master raconteur Richard S. Prather. Richard’s only criteria for this collection was that each crime or mystery story had to make the reader laugh, and the writers selected met his challenge and then some. Margaret Manners brings us the tale of a wife turned amateur journalist/sleuth who’s more than a match for a devious murder. From legendary hardboiled author Evan Hunter comes an over-the-top tale of a gumshoe in way over his head, caught up between a deadly damsel and a local mob. Ellery Queen recounts a tale of theft and assault at a university, where a slip of the tongue is enough to catch a thief. And no collection of humorous mystery stories would be complete without one from the master himself, Richard S. Prather, featuring his wisecracking P.I. Shell Scott matching wits with a local mobster who’s framed Scott for that most heinous of crimes…moral turpitude. Fifteen stories ranging from slapstick to parody to black humor, all guaranteed to tickle your funny bone…whether it’s attached to the rest of your body or not… Robert Arthur Stanley Ellin Michael Fessier Jack Finney Erle Stanley Gardner Michael Gilbert Dion Henderson Evan Hunter Veronica Parker Johns Dana Lyon Margaret Manners Berkely Mather William O’Farrell Richard S. Welcome to Verona Bay, a small coastal town where the secrets just won’t stay buried—and people aren’t always who they seem. She was the one that got away… Eight years ago Serenity Washington watched as her twin sister was murdered. She was lucky to escape the same grisly fate. With her sister’s killer in jail, she relocated and tried to move on with her life. She married a man in the Air Force and started a family, but when her husband dies unexpectedly she moves back to the last place she remembers being happy—Verona Bay, FL. Now that she’s come home, it’s all starting again… Within months of Serenity’s homecoming, she receives a ‘gift’—a bracelet from her sister that was never recovered after her death—and a taunting note. Terrified for herself and her young daughter, she turns to the local sheriff for help. But there’s only so much they can do without proof that the gifts aren’t more than sick pranks. There’s been no DNA, no fingerprints left behind—nothing to indicate who’s leaving them. As the horrifying gifts arrive with increasing frequency, Serenity has no doubt that she’s the ultimate target. But with her sister’s murderer—a confessed serial killer—still behind bars, she has no idea who’s stalking her. She turns to the one man she’s been trying to keep her distance from… Former Marine Lucas Jordan has been hung up on single mom Serenity since she moved back to Verona Bay, but she’s made it clear she’s not looking for a relationship. When she’s targeted, however, all bets are off. He won’t sit by while she’s terrorized, and with her and her daughter’s lives in danger he’s prepared to stand his ground and protect them both. Together they face the impossible task of trying to figure out who to trust before they all wind up six feet under.

Book Description
Multiple killings by serial or spree killers and the mass violence seen in war crimes and other atrocities have typically been understood as discrete category types, which can foster the view that there are fundamentally different kinds of human beings, including "deviants" who are born evil and innately given to sadism or a callous lack of empathy. In contrast, this book considers the violence of these "deviants" in terms of larger questions about human violence. Therefore, in addition to describing the life histories of a sample of individual serial and spree murderers, the book includes analysis of macro-level phenomena such as genocide, mass rape and killing, and torture occurring under conditions of war, state authorization, or political upheaval. The chief claim of the book is that, given the "right" combination of factors occurring at different levels of analysis, virtually anyone can emerge as a killer or perpetrator of atrocities. While it is crucial to understand individual killers in terms of the details of their biographies, it is equally crucial to understand political atrocities in terms of the details of their histories; and to see that persons and groups are always the product of complexly interacting assemblage processes.

Book Description
Late Medieval and Renaissance art was surprisingly pushy; its architecture demanded that people move through it in prescribed patterns, its sculptures played elaborate games alternating between concealment and revelation, while its paintings charged viewers with imaginatively moving through them. Viewers wanted to interact with artwork in emotional and/or performative ways. This inventive and personal interface between viewers and artists sometimes conflicted with the Church s prescribed devotional models, and in some cases it complemented them. Artists and patrons responded to the desire for both spontaneous and sanctioned interactions by creating original ways to amplify devotional experiences. The authors included here study the provocation and the reactions associated with medieval and Renaissance art and architecture. These essays trace the impetus towards interactivity from the points of view of their creators and those who used them.Contributors include: Mickey Abel, Alfred Acres, Kathleen Ashley, Viola Belghaus, Sarah Blick, Erika Boeckeler, Robert L.A.
