Book Description
There are thousands of books and gurus on the subject of performance management. Yet, there are so few examples of where it is practised well. Everyone knows what performance management is, have read the books, have heard the gurus, yet there are so few outstanding success stories. This book is different for the following reasons:1. It is based on years of personal experience in implementing hundreds of performance management systems in companies.2. Contributors to the book have actually done and experienced what they are writing about, with particular experience in emerging markets.3. It is underpinned by empirical research.4. It is practical and, for once, tells you how to do it, with no missing steps or information. There are tool kits, forms and check lists that can be used instantly.5. It is written in plain English with no bamboozling jargon, with many practical examples and templates that you can amend to suit your needs. It also includes practical examples of different types of performance appraisal methodologies, namely the; Outputs Approach Traditional Approach Balanced Scorecard Multirater/360oContents include: The philosophy of performance Measurement and metrics The measurement of human capital Developing an output-driven performance plan The traditional approach to performance appraisal Performance appraisal rating scales The balanced scorecard approach Multisource/360-degree feedback Performance-related pay The link between performance management and long-term incentives (LTIs) Does performance management work? Book Description
The contents of this book center around the management of strategic reward systems. In particular, the book focuses in on the following elements of managing a reward system: design, implementation, and evaluation. It is my belief that too much time is spent on the administration of strategic reward systems at the expense of these other activities that add more value than does administration to the organization. Moreover, it is very important to remember that the management of reward systems takes place in a larger context that must be accommodated when designing, implementing, and evaluating strategic reward systems. This larger context includes the business environment, business strategy, and compensation strategy. Elements of the environment include the internal environment (organizational structure, business processes, HR systems) and external environment (laws and regulations, labor markets, and unions). The collection of articles presented throughout the book is very concerned with the fit of strategic reward management with the business environment, business strategy, and compensation strategy. Research has clearly documented the importance of this "fit" to organizational effectiveness (Gomez-Mejia & Balkin, 1992). A practical illustration makes the point as well. Taco Bell was found guilty in a class action suit by current and former employees. In order to keep the number of labor hours low in a productivity formula used to grant bonuses to managers, employee time sheets failed to account for overtime hours by employees. Failure to pay attention to the legal context in designing, implementing, and evaluating a strategic reward program cost Taco Bell millions of dollars (Gatewood, 2001). Although all of the readings in the book focus in on the management of strategic rewards in the larger business context, the readings are organized by topical area. The selection of topics is simply based on my writing interests and do not reflect the entire domain of important topics in strategic reward management.

Book Description
Diploma Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Leadership and Human Resource Management - Employee Motivation, grade: 1,3, , language: English, abstract: The motivation of employees is an important task of today's corporate management. In order for managers to do justice to their tasks and encourage employees to perform at their best, they must know how to influence the attitude and motivation of their employees in a positive and performance-enhancing way. Since each employee pursues different goals and the company's goals must not be neglected, managers must develop a flexible incentive system in order to reconcile the goals of the employees and the company's management. But how exactly does an incentive system have to be designed in order to be able to motivate employees? In this book, the author takes a critical look at increasing employee motivation using incentive systems. To this end, he compares basic motivation theories by Maslow, Herzberg and Vroom, among others, and illustrates the benefits for today's personnel policy. The author also shows how incentive systems work. In doing so, he makes it clear where the possibilities and limits of monetary and non-monetary incentives lie in relation to the willingness to perform of a company's employees. From the content: - Motivation theory; - Attraction; - Extrinsic motivation; - Intrinsic motivation; - Monetary incentive schemes; - Non-monetary incentive systems
