Book Description
This is the first book that attempts to study the origin of cooperatvity in binding systems from the molecular point of view. The molecular approach provides a deeper insight into the mechanism of cooperativity and regulation, than the traditional phenomenological approach. This book uses the tools of statistical mechanics to present the molecular theory of cooperativity. Cooperativity is used in a variety of processes-such as loading and unloading of oxygen at relatively small pressure differences; maintaining an almost constant concentration of various compounds in living cells; and switching on and off the reading of genetic information. This book may be used as a textbook by graduate students in Chemistry, Biochemistry and Biophysics, and will also be of interest to researchers in theoretical biochemistry.

Book Description
This book covers the most recent developments in the analysis of allosteric enzymes and provides a logical introduction to the limits for enzyme function as dictated by the factors that are limits for life. The book presents a complete description of all the mechanisms used for changing enzyme activity. It is extensively illustrated to clarify kinetic and regulatory properties. Eight enzymes are used as model systems after extensive study of their mechanisms. Wherever possible, the human form of the enzyme is used to illustrate the regulatory features.

Book Description
Learn BIOPHYSICS without expending a lot of ENERGY! Interested in unraveling the physics of living things? Here's your starting point. Biophysics Demystified is the fast and easy way to understand this fascinating topic. Written in a step-by-step format, this practical guide begins with an introduction to the science of biophysics, covering biophysical techniques and applications. Next, you'll learn the principles of physics, biology, and chemistry required to understand biophysics, including free energy, entropy, and statistical mechanics. Biomolecules and the forces that influence their structure and conformation are also covered, as are protein, nucleic acid, and membrane biophysics. Detailed examples and concise explanations make it easy to understand the material, and end-of-chapter quizzes and a final exam help reinforce key concepts. It's a no-brainer! You'll get: Molecular, subcellular, physiological, anatomical, and environmental biophysics The laws of thermodynamics as they apply to biophysical systems Forces affecting conformation in biological molecules The composition and structure of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids The fluid mosaic model Simple enough for a beginner, but challenging enough for an advanced student, Biophysics Demystified makes this interdisciplinary subject easy to master.

Book Description
Drug-Acceptor Interactions: Modeling theoretical tools to test and evaluate experimental equilibrium effects suggests novel theoretical tools to test and evaluate drug interactions seen with combinatorial drug therapy. The book provides an in-depth, yet controversial, exploration of existing tools for analysis of dose-response studies at equilibrium or steady state. The book is recommended reading for post-graduate students and researchers engaged in the study of systems biology, networks, and the pharmacodynamics of natural or industrial drugs, as well as for medical clinicians interested in drug application and combinatorial drug therapy. Even people without mathematical skills will be able to follow the pros and cons of reaction schemes and their related distribution equations. Chapter 9 is a hands-on guide for software to plot, fit and analyze one's own data.

Book Description
This book establishes an important mathematical connection between cooperative control problems and network optimization problems. It shows that many cooperative control problems can in fact be understood, under certain passivity assumptions, using a pair of static network optimization problems. Merging notions from passivity theory and network optimization, it describes a novel network optimization approach that can be applied to the synthesis of controllers for diffusively-coupled networks of passive (or passivity-short) dynamical systems. It also introduces a data-based, model-free approach for the synthesis of network controllers for multi-agent systems with passivity-short agents. Further, the book describes a method for monitoring link faults in multi-agent systems using passivity theory and graph connectivity. It reports on some practical case studies describing the effectivity of the developed approaches in vehicle networks. All in all, this book offers an extensive source of information and novel methods in the emerging field of multi-agent cooperative control, paving the way to future developments of autonomous systems for various application domains
