Book Description
This book records the presentations given at a workshop held in Bonn in May 1994. The aim of the meeting was to bring together scientists from various disciplines and clinicians to discuss within a group of experts the theoretical, medical, engineering, and regulatory aspects of automated control of therapeutic interventions in. anaesthesiology. The meeting was considered a continuation of a preceding work shop on "Quantitation, Modelling and Control in Anaesthesia" [1], which was held also in Bonn 10 years ago in May 1984. That workshop dealt with problems of how to quantitate concepts like anaesthetic depth, how to model anaesthetic drug disposition, how to link phar macokinetics and pharmacodynamics, and how to use such concepts for the control of anaesthetic drug delivery. With respect to these topics the current proceedings have simultaneously both a broadened and a narrowed perspective. It is broadened in so far as the topics of the workshop did not focus exclusively on anaesthetic drugs and the control of their delivery, but did also discuss anaesthesia machine monitoring and patients therapeutic monitoring as well as control of blood pressure and artificial ventilation. The proceedings have nar rowed the perspective insofar as they do not intensively discuss the processes of quantitation and modelling but presuppose them and give more room to control, especially automated control. During the past 10 years informatics has tremendously expanded its knowledge and methods applicable to control problems.

Author: Dana Copot
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 0128159758
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 338
Book Description
Automated Drug Delivery in Anesthesia provides a full review of available tools and methods on the drug delivery of anesthesia, bridging the gap between academic development, research and clinical practice. The book takes an interdisciplinary approach, pulling information about tools developed in other disciplines such as mathematics, physics, biology and system engineering and applying them to drug delivery. The book's authors discuss the missing element of complete regulatory loop of anesthesia: the sensor and model for pain pathway assessment. This is the only book which focuses specifically on the delivery of anesthesia.

Automatic Control Systems
Author: S. Palani
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030934454
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 922
Book Description
This book is designed to serve as a textbook for courses offered to undergraduate students enrolled in Electrical Engineering and related disciplines. The book provides a comprehensive coverage of linear system theory. In this book, the concepts around each topic are well discussed with a full-length presentation of numerical examples. Each example is unique in its way, and it is graded sequentially. This book highlights simple methods for solving problems. Even though, the subject requires a very strong mathematical foundation, wherever possible, rigorous mathematics is simplified for a quick understanding of the basic concepts. The book also includes select numerical problems to test the capability of the students. Time and frequency domain approaches for the analysis and design of linear automatic control systems have been explained using state-space and transfer function models of physical systems. All the chapters include a short theoretical summary of the topic followed by exercises on solving complex problems using MATLAB commands. In addition, each chapter offers a large number of end-of-chapter homework problems. This second edition includes a new chapter on state-space modeling and analysis. Detailed conceptual coverage and pedagogical tools make this an ideal textbook for students and researchers enrolled in electrical engineering and related programs.

On the Study and Practice of Intravenous Anaesthesia
Author: J. Vuyk
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401596042
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 287
Book Description
close circle of anaesthetic scientists but, with the help of computer technology, has greatly influenced the practice of the modern clinical anaesthesiologist. The efforts of anaesthesiologists, pharmaceutical companies, and the development of the internet has lead to a situation that now almost every anaesthesiologist can be in close contact to anaesthetic pharmacology computer simulation pro grams and target controlled infusion devices. These two tools allow us to in crease our understanding and improve the controllability of anaesthetic drug administration, on site, in the operating theatre. In Europe the growing enthusi asm regarding the study and practice of intravenous anaesthesia has lead to an increased output of manuscripts on this subject, the initiation of workshops on the pharmacology of anaesthetic agents and the formation of a society that embodies this spirit; the European Society for Intravenous Anaesthesia, the EuroSIVA. EuroSIVA The concept of EuroSIVA has been to provide a forum to co-ordinate, facilitate and promote high quality presentations in the area of intravenous drug admini stration. The first two meetings held in 1988 in Barcelona and 1999 in Amster dam achieved these aims. During the Barcelona and Amsterdam meetings pre senters of over 10 countries shared their knowledge with 250 and 400 partici pants, respectively. In addition to the EuroSIVA meetings the international board aims to promote education for those involved with intravenous anaes thesia.

Computers and Control in Clinical Medicine
Author: Ewart R. Carson
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461324378
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 266
Book Description
This book is a collection of invited contributions, each reflec ting an area of medicine in which computing techniques have been successfully applied; but why the title? From a control system point of view the aim of clinical medicine is to recognise the deviation of a patient from the space of normality, and to propel and steer the patient along a trajectory back to that space. Acquiring and main taining the knowledge and skills of this process is the function of medicine. The first chapter expands on this view. Subsequent chapters written by experts in their respective areas cover a fair range of application. All give considerable insight as to the ways in which the control system approach, facilitated by computational tools, can be of value when applied to clinical problems. The idea for this book arose naturally out of a symposium held at the University of Sussex, Brighton, England, on "Control System Concepts and Approaches in Clinical Medicine" in April, 1982, spon sored by the Institute of Measurement and Control and co-sponsored by the Institution of Electrical Engineers and the Royal Society of Medicine. It is not, however, a "proceedings" of this meeting but rather a collection of essays that reflect developing areas in which many have particular interest. We think the volume is timely and hope that the work described will be an encouragement for others.
