Le milieu est représenté par deux milieux semi-infinis pour le sol et l’air, séparées par une interface plane. Les troncs et les branches principales sont modélisés par des parallélépipèdes verticaux et inclinés. Le calcul du champ électrique diffracté est basé sur la représentation intégrale résolue par une méthode des moments. Une expression cohérente et exacte du champ électrique est obtenue. Disposant de ce modèle, la méthode D.O.R.T. et l’algorithme MUSIC sont utilisés pour détecter et localiser des cibles dans le milieu. La configuration basique consiste en un réseau d’antennes assurant l’émission et la réception des ondes. Une loi de phase est alors déduite, elle permet d’orienter le diagramme de rayonnement du réseau vers la position de la cible et de construire une image du milieu.

Ce travail porte sur l’étude de la diffusion bistatique des ondes électromagnétiques par un milieu forestier dans les bandes VHF et UHF. Son objectif principal est le développement d’un modèle électromagnétique ”exact” de diffusion pour aider à la compréhension des phénomènes d’interactions d’un signal radar avec les éléments d’une parcelle de forêt observée. Le modèle est basé, d’une part, sur une représentation géométrique simple de la forêt et, d’autre part, sur une représentation intégrale en volume du champ électrique. La forêt est représentée par deux milieux stratifiés homogènes semi-infinis représentant respectivement l’air et le sol. Les troncs d’arbres et les branches primaires sont modélisés respectivement par des parallélépipèdes diélectriques verticaux et inclinés. L’équation intégrale est ramenée à un système d’équations linéaires par une méthode des moments en discrétisant les arbres en cellules élémentaires cubiques. Le modèle développé permet de ”prédire” non seulement le champ diffracté par une parcelle forêt en un point quelconque au-dessus du sol, mais aussi d’extraire les contributions de différents mécanismes de diffusion et de séparer celles des troncs et de celles des branches. Le modèle a été validé théoriquement à l’aide du logiciel commercial FEKO ainsi que par des mesures bistatiques en chambres anéchoïques sur des parcelles de forêt à échelle réduite.

There are currently three species of Asian rhino: the Indian or greater one-horned Asian rhino, the Javan or lesser one-horned Asian rhino and the Sumatran or Asian two-horned rhino. Today, all three are threatened with extinction and two, the Sumatran rhino and Javan rhino, critically so. Although the Indian rhino is to be found in greater numbers than the other two, the threats to this species nevertheless remain significant. As in the case of the African rhinos, the threats to the Asian rhinos stem from poaching for the horn, the primary demand for which is in traditional Chinese medicine but which is also a speculator's commodity in several consumer nations. However, a further threat to these animals is also posed by the destruction of their habitat. Indeed, two of these species inhabit the tropical rainforest which is being destroyed. This action plan describes the major requirements for rhino conservation and describes some of the programmes which can and are being implemented to stem the threats to these species such as managed breeding and the "in situ" conservation of their habitats.
