Identity Redemption
Author: Danielle DeGarmo
Publisher: Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.
ISBN:
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 88
Book Description
Have you been told your 20s are for finding yourself? Have you been told that you're the main character in your life or the author of your own story? Are you really tired of trying to prove a point, prove yourself, and figure it out? Are you caught between strength and shame? Do you know who you are and the purpose for which you were created? I wrote this book to encourage you to get first things first and not out of order, like I did. I told my story in this book of "Identity Redemption" through being lost in a battle with PANS/PANDAS, being suicidal, and enduring some emotional abuse. I pray it encourages you to focus less on finding yourself in this world and more on finding God. I was lost, but now I am found and this is my story. There is a proposal for you in this book, not from me, but from God. He's waiting for you.

Analysing Identity
Author: Peter Weinreich
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 113442521X
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 460
Book Description
People's identities are addressed and brought into being by interaction with others. Identity processes encompass biographical experiences, historical eras and cultural norms in which the self's autonomy varies according to the flux of power relationships with others. Identity Structure Analysis (ISA) draws upon psychological, sociological and social anthropological theory and evidence to formulate a system of concepts that help explain the notion of identity. They can be applied to the practical investigations of identity structure and identity development in a number of clinical, societal and cultural settings. This book includes topics on national and ethnic identification in multicultural contexts and gender identity relating to social context and the urban environment. Clinical applications that describe identity processes associated with psychological distress are also examined. These include anorexia nervosa and vicarious traumatisation of counsellors in the aftermath of atrocity. Analysing Identity is unique in its development of this integrative conceptualisation of self and identity, and its operationalisation in practice. This innovative book will appeal to academics and professionals in developmental, social, cross-cultural, clinical and educational psychology and psychotherapy. It will also be of interest to those involved with sociology, political science, gender studies, ethnic studies and social policy. Of particular note is the availability of new software, Ipseus, which facilitates ISA for use by practitioners. It enables them to enhance their professional skills by ascertaining their clients’ perspectives on self as located in the social world. This has been successfully used with pre-school three to five year-old children, and all other age-ranges through childhood, adolescence and adulthood. Ipseus is designed to be used in inter-cultural contexts and appeals to practitioners for their input for the generation of customized identity instruments (see www.identityexploration.com).

Search of Identity
Author: Anonym
Publisher: GRIN Verlag
ISBN: 3640933052
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 61
Book Description
Seminar paper from the year 2011 in the subject American Studies - Literature, Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald, language: English, abstract: In this paper I will discuss the facts about finding the own identity as a mixed race woman in Canada through out two books: Halfbreed by Maria Campbell In Search of April Raintree by Beatrice Culleton Maria Campbell's Halfbreed is the story of her own life and with it the book can be seen as a biography, whereas In Search of April Raintree by Beatrice Culleton is a novel about mixed blood sisters living in Winnipeg. This essay will compare and contrast these two books as illustrations of life as a "half-breed" in western Canada. Most importantly, attention will be directed to their conclusions in finding the own identity. While reading this essay, you will notice that I have put my main focus on the book by Beatrice Culleton. For many Canadians the distinction is taken to be white or black, between 'Status Indians' legally recognized as native and the remainder of the population. Indians carry a status card and are entitled to exemption from sales tax, special education funding, a vote in band council elections and other legal rights that differentiate them from other Canadians. There are a lot of individuals who do not fall into either of theses categories, while the legal divisions between these two groups are clear. As a group the Métis are neither Europeans nor Natives, but in their bloodlines they contain the blood, of both of these two ethnic groups. Similar, with fur traders working throughout the Canadian wilderness for centuries, there are many people who share European and Native ancestry. Both books end with a form of "healing", finding their own identity, for the main characters, April and Maria. The roots and origins of these characters developments will be examined.

Perfectly Confident
Author: Don A. Moore
Publisher: HarperCollins
ISBN: 0062887777
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 260
Book Description
An expert on the psychology of decision making at Berkeley’s Haas School of Business helps readers calibrate their confidence, arguing that some confidence is good, but overconfidence can hinder growth. A surge of confidence can feel fantastic—offering a rush of energy, even a dazzling vision of the future. It can give us courage and bolster our determination when facing adversity. But if that self-assurance leads us to pursue impossible goals, it can waste time, money, and energy. Self-help books and motivational speakers tell us that the more confident we are, the better. But this way of thinking can lead to enormous trouble. Decades of research demonstrates that we often have an over-inflated sense of self and are rarely as good as we believe. Perfectly Confident is the first book to bring together the best psychological and economic studies to explain exactly what confidence is, when it can be helpful, and when it can be destructive in our lives. Confidence is an attitude that takes into account both personal feelings and the facts. Don Moore identifies the ways confidence behaves in real life and raises thought-provoking questions. How optimistic should you be about an uncertain future? What justifies your confidence in something amorphous and subjective like your attractiveness or sense of humor? Moore reminds us that the key to success is to avoid being both over- and under-confident. In this essential guide, he shows how to become perfectly confident—how to strive for and maintain the well-calibrated, adaptive confidence that can elevate all areas of our lives.
