Book Description
"A National Feed Assessment System (NFAS) is a complete set of procedures, facilities, tools, personnel, organizations, and institutions involved in the collecting, handling, processing of data necessary to calculate and report the supplies of livestock feeds from all sources and for all livestock types in a country. It is comprised of numerous components which interact in an integrated manner to achieve a common outcome, the National Feed Assessment (NFA). A NFA is a data- and computation-based analysis of the supplies and demands for livestock feeds in a country. Accurate assessments of current and future supplies and demands for livestock feed are needed for national food security policy and planning, as well as the setting of environmentally sustainable stocking rates. Feed resources must be assessed and monitored to provide information for the development and implementation of policies that will contribute to the sustainable growth of national livestock sectors. Assessments will provide information on feed resource availabilities that will enable optimal policy decisions regarding the use of national feed resources. This document provides guidance to countries in developing NFASs. Members of governments and research organizations who wish to establish NFASs will likely seek guidance on the technical issues and procedural aspects of building and institutionalizing NFASs. A set of recommended step-wise procedures is given for implementing NFASs, including procedures for planning, establishing, and updating a NFAS. It is hoped that using the information provided in this document countries will initiate activities to establish and maintain the NFA."--Publisher's description.

Good practices for the feed sector
Author: Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
Publisher: Food & Agriculture Org.
ISBN: 9251335338
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 140
Book Description
This manual provides comprehensive information and practical guidelines to assist farmers, producers and all stakeholders along the feed value chain to comply with the requirements of the Codex Alimentarius Code of Practice on Good Animal Feeding. The application of the Code is an important step for the expansion of international trade of feed and products of animal origin. Both feed/food exporting and importing countries can benefit from a greater and safer trade of feed and products of animal origins. This manual is intended to guide managers of feedmills, the feed industry as a whole and on-farm feed mixers and producers. It will also be of value to national competent authorities, in particular those engaged in feed inspection, in their supervisory roles. It can also serve as a training manual and a guide to setting up national feed associations.

Good emergency management practice - The essentials
Author: Gary, F., Clauss, M., Bonbon, E., Myers, L.
Publisher: Food & Agriculture Org.
ISBN: 9251341273
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 100
Book Description
Animal health emergencies are evolving, but they remain among the most challenging situations a country can confront. Infectious diseases and other threats have increasing potential to spread rapidly within a country or around the world due to growing populations, concentration of animal populations and market intensification, human and animal movement, and global trade. This international GEMP Essentials guide is meant to support the advancement of key components of emergency management as countries continue efforts to work and prepare together. It sets out in a systematic way the elements required to achieve an appropriate level of preparedness and proposes an approach to animal health emergency management inclusive of all type of events, be they caused by natural phenomenon, including not infectious events, or by accidental or deliberate human action. The guide also includes the One Health approach.

Handbook for conducting assessments of barriers to effective coverage with health services
Author: Theadora Swift KOLLER
Publisher: World Health Organization
ISBN: 9240094768
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 152
Book Description
According to the most recent data available , 4.5 billion people were not fully covered by essential health services in their countries in 2021. Likewise, in 2019, the total population experiencing financial hardship was estimated to be 2 billion people. To scale up action to leave no one behind, WHO’s Fourteenth General Programme of Work, 2025-2028 (GPW 14) has an explicit and strong commitment to equity. In support of this, WHO has released a handbook with methods for the identification of barriers to effective coverage with health services. The 8-module handbook applies mixed method research approaches -- grounded in the Tanahashi framework for effective coverage -- to focus on barriers experienced by potential users and non-users of health services. The handbook facilitates the capturing of evidence on the interface between the population and the services. The handbook has four objectives. 1.To orient national authorities and partners on key concepts, definitions, frameworks and principles relevant to barriers assessments. 2.To build the capacity of national authorities and partners to design a research plan and apply diverse methods (e.g. informant interviews, literature reviews, quantitative analysis and focus groups) in barriers assessments. 3.To provide guidance for reporting on barrier assessment findings in a clear and actionable manner and convening key stakeholders to deliberate next steps. 4.To adapt the methods for humanitarian contexts, accounting for the need for differentiated approaches.
