Computing Methods in Optimization Problems
Author: A. V. Balakrishnan
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 1483223159
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 338
Book Description
Computing Methods in Optimization Problems deals with hybrid computing methods and optimization techniques using computers. One paper discusses different numerical approaches to optimizing trajectories, including the gradient method, the second variation method, and a generalized Newton-Raphson method. The paper cites the advantages and disadvantages of each method, and compares the second variation method (a direct method) with the generalized Newton-Raphson method (an indirect method). An example problem illustrates the application of the three methods in minimizing the transfer time of a low-thrust ion rocket between the orbits of Earth and Mars. Another paper discusses an iterative process for steepest-ascent optimization of orbit transfer trajectories to minimize storage requirements such as in reduced memory space utilized in guidance computers. By eliminating state variable storage and control schedule storage, the investigator can achieve reduced memory requirements. Other papers discuss dynamic programming, invariant imbedding, quasilinearization, Hilbert space, and the computational aspects of a time-optimal control problem. The collection is suitable for computer programmers, engineers, designers of industrial processes, and researchers involved in aviation or control systems technology.

Soft Computing Methods for Microwave and Millimeter-Wave Design Problems
Author: Narendra Chauhan
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642255620
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 119
Book Description
The growing commercial market of Microwave/ Millimeter wave industry over the past decade has led to the explosion of interests and opportunities for the design and development of microwave components. The design of most microwave components requires the use of commercially available electromagnetic (EM) simulation tools for their analysis. In the design process, the simulations are carried out by varying the design parameters until the desired response is obtained. The optimization of design parameters by manual searching is a cumbersome and time consuming process. Soft computing methods such as Genetic Algorithm (GA), Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Fuzzy Logic (FL) have been widely used by EM researchers for microwave design since last decade. The aim of these methods is to tolerate imprecision, uncertainty, and approximation to achieve robust and low cost solution in a small time frame. Modeling and optimization are essential parts and powerful tools for the microwave/millimeter wave design. This book deals with the development and use of soft computing methods for tackling challenging design problems in the microwave/millimeter wave domain. The aim in the development of these methods is to obtain the design in small time frame while improving the accuracy of the design for a wide range of applications. To achieve this goal, a few diverse design problems of microwave field, representing varied challenges in the design, such as different microstrip antennas, microwave filters, a microstrip-via and also some critical high power components such as nonlinear tapers and RF-windows are considered as case-study design problems. Different design methodologies are developed for these applications. The presents soft computing methods, their review for microwave/millimeter wave design problems and specific case-study problems to infuse better insight and understanding of the subject.

Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483147568
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 151
Book Description
Analogue Computing Methods presents the field of analogue computation and simulation in a compact and convenient form, providing an outline of models and analogues that have been produced to solve physical problems for the engineer and how to use and program the electronic analogue computer. This book consists of six chapters. The first chapter provides an introduction to analogue computation and discusses certain mathematical techniques. The electronic equipment of an analogue computer is covered in Chapter 2, while its use to solve simple problems, including the method of scaling is elaborated in Chapter 3. Chapter 4 describes the general layout of a computer with specifications of selected commercial computers. In Chapter 5, the use of a large computer is elaborated through a reactor simulation. The last chapter outlines particular general analogue devices. Conductive analogues and other methods and special techniques, which have been used in connection with electronic analogue computing, are also deliberated in this text. This publication is valuable to students and individuals conducting work on analogue computing.
