Book Description
The October 1999 conference emphasized emerging applications such as e-commerce, and important societal issues such as software engineering licensing, the future of software engineering education, and software manpower issues. Twenty sessions separate 74 papers that cover software development techniques, formal software engineering techniques, network engineering and network security, web-based applications, information systems and information retrieval. Topics include architectural evolution of legacy systems, validating software specifications against user claims, a method for controlling errors in two-class classification, tracking personal processes in group projects, and detecting null pointer violations in Java programs. There are also 17 short papers from the nine panel sessions on such topics as the future of software engineering education. No subject index. Annotation c. Book Description
CAiSE 2000 was the 12th in the series of International Conferences on Advanced Information Systems Engineering. In the year 2000 the conference returned to Stockholm where it was organized the very first time. Since that year, 1989, the CAiSE conferences have developed into an important forum for the presentation and exchange of research results and practical experiences within the field of Information Systems Engineering. The objective of the CAiSE conference series is to bring together researchers and practitioners in the field of information systems engineering to meet annually in order to discuss evolving research issues and applications in this field. The CAiSE conference series also aims to provide an opportunity for young scientists to establish relationships with senior scientists in their areas of interest. Stockholm is an important center of research and development for some of the leading IT and communications companies in Europe and indeed, in the world. In tune with this environment, a major theme of CAiSE 2000 was "information systems and services in a digitized world". This theme reflects the vast improvements in communication technology, including the increasing use of Internet and WWW, that has taken place over the last years, and that has led to better communication and easier information access in general. In addition, this development has initiated changes in the way organizations cooperate and trade.

Book Description
The aim of IFIP Working Group 2.7 (13.4) for User Interface Engineering is to investigate the nature, concepts and construction of user interfaces for software systems. The group's scope is: • developing user interfaces based on knowledge of system and user behaviour; • developing frameworks for reasoning about interactive systems; and • developing engineering models for user interfaces. Every three years, the group holds a "working conference" on these issues. The conference mixes elements of a regular conference and a workshop. As in a regular conference, the papers describe relatively mature work and are thoroughly reviewed. As in a workshop, the audience is kept small, to enable in-depth discussions. The conference is held over 5-days (instead of the usual 3-days) to allow such discussions. Each paper is discussed after it is presented. A transcript of the discussion is found at the end of each paper in these proceedings, giving important insights about the paper. Each session was assigned a "notes taker", whose responsibility was to collect/transcribe the questions and answers during the session. After the conference, the original transcripts were distributed (via the Web) to the attendees and modifications that clarified the discussions were accepted.
