An Introduction to Compressible Flow
Author: Forrest E. Ames
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 100034309X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 296
Book Description
An Introduction to Compressible Flow, Second Edition covers the material typical of a single-semester course in compressible flow. The book begins with a brief review of thermodynamics and control volume fluid dynamics, then proceeds to cover isentropic flow, normal shock waves, shock tubes, oblique shock waves, Prandtl-Meyer expansion fans, Fanno-line flow, Rayleigh-line flow, and conical shock waves. The book includes a chapter on linearized flow following chapters on oblique shocks and Prandtl-Meyer flows to appropriately ground students in this approximate method. It includes detailed appendices to support problem solutions and covers new oblique shock tables, which allow for quick and accurate solutions of flows with concave corners. The book is intended for senior undergraduate engineering students studying thermal-fluids and practicing engineers in the areas of aerospace or energy conversion. This book is also useful in providing supplemental coverage of compressible flow material in gas turbine and aerodynamics courses.

Internal Flow
Author: E. M. Greitzer
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 1139451111
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 739
Book Description
This book describes the analysis and behaviour of internal flows encountered in propulsion systems, fluid machinery (compressors, turbines and pumps) and ducts (diffusers, nozzles and combustion chambers). The focus is on phenomena that are important in setting the performance of a broad range of fluid devices. The authors show that even for complex processes one can learn a great deal about the behaviour of such devices from a clear understanding and rigorous use of basic principles. Throughout the book they illustrate theoretical principles by reference to technological applications. The strong emphasis on fundamentals, however, means that the ideas presented can be applied beyond internal flow to other types of fluid motion. The book equips students and practising engineers with a range of new analytical tools. These tools offer enhanced interpretation and application of both experimental measurements and the computational procedures that characterize modern fluids engineering.

Nonsteady, One-dimensional, Internal, Compressible Flows
Author: John A. C. Kentfield
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 310
Book Description
This is the first text devoted exclusively to the subject of nonsteady, compressible, internal flow theory and the application of this theory to practical devices. The need for such a text has become apparent with the availability of commercial equipment dependent upon this type of flow phenomena. The book is usable both as a text for graduate level courses and as an introduction for readers wishing to become familiar with nonsteady flow phenomena and their practical applications. This audience consists of mechanical, chemical, and aerospace engineers; and specialists in fluid mechanics. The first and second chapters are introductory in nature, aiming to assist readers conversant with the concepts of steady flow to adjust to unfamiliar events and circumstances while avoiding the finer details of algebraic manipulation. A generalized derivation of the classical method-of-characteristics as applied to one-dimensional, nonsteady, internal flows is included in chapter three. Chapter four is devoted to a study of the various boundary conditions necessary for handling a wide range of problems. Chapter five deals with methods of solution including both graphical and numerical procedures. The remaining five chapters explore specific fields of application. These include pipeline flows, dynamic pressure exchangers, pulse combusters and the tuning of the exhaust and induction systems of reciprocating, and Wankel type, internal combustion engines. Additional nonsteady flow devices are described in the last chapter. All the latter chapters are supported by appropriate references to available literature, including the basic material presented in the first half of the book. When necessary, additional specialized theoretical material is included in each of the special-topics applications-oriented chapters. In order to fulfill the needs of graduate students and their instructors, worked examples are included in addition to exercise problems.

Principles of Ideal-fluid Aerodynamics
Author: Krishnamurty Karamcheti
Publisher: Krieger Publishing Company
ISBN:
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 664
Book Description
The prerequisite for the study of this book is a knowledge of matrices and the essentials of functions of a complex variable. It has been developed from courses given by the authors and probably contains more material than will ordinarily be covered in a one-year course. It is hoped that the book will be a useful text in the application of differential equations as well as for the pure mathematician.

Elements of Gas Dynamics
Author: H. W. Liepmann
Publisher: Courier Corporation
ISBN: 0486316858
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 436
Book Description
The increasing importance of concepts from compressible fluid flow theory for aeronautical applications makes the republication of this first-rate text particularly timely. Intended mainly for aeronautics students, the text will also be helpful to practicing engineers and scientists who work on problems involving the aerodynamics of compressible fluids. Covering the general principles of gas dynamics to provide a working understanding of the essentials of gas flow, the contents of this book form the foundation for a study of the specialized literature and should give the necessary background for reading original papers on the subject. Topics include introductory concepts from thermodynamics, including entropy, reciprocity relations, equilibrium conditions, the law of mass action and condensation; one-dimensional gasdynamics, one-dimensional wave motion, waves in supersonic flow, flow in ducts and wind tunnels, methods of measurement, the equations of frictionless flow, small-perturbation theory, transonic flow, effects of viscosity and conductivity, and much more. The text includes numerous detailed figures and several useful tables, while concluding exercises demonstrate the application of the material in the text and outline additional subjects. Advanced undergraduate or graduate physics and engineering students with at least a working knowledge of calculus and basic physics will profit immensely from studying this outstanding volume.
