Book Description
Relying heavily on graphics, this authoritative text covers more wilderness navigation topics than any other book on the market. It provides detailed technical descriptions of navigation tools -- maps, charts, compass, altimeter, GPS, and sextant -- and step-by-step procedures on how use these tools individually and in combination with each other. Factors that cause tools and techniques to fail are discussed. One full chapter dwells into the complexities and limitations of celestial navigation, while another chapter describes natural navigation techniques -- if you aren't carrying any navigation tools, don't give up hope. The last two chapters deal exclusively with practical navigation. The last chapter, which is quite entertaining, describes real life scenarios, some of which the author has vividly experienced.

Book Description
In the early 20th century the US "International Code of Signals" was a very progressive way for vessels to communicate important messages regarding matters of safety and navigation. The edition of 1907 contained three sections: the first part depicts urgent and important signals and all the tables of money, weights, barometric heights, etc., together with a geographical list and a table of phrases formed with the auxiliary verbs. The second part is an index. It consists of a general vocabulary and a geographical index. The third part gives lists of the United States storm-warning, life-saving, time-signal, and wireless telegraph stations, and of Lloyd's signal stations of the world. It also contains semaphore and distant signal codes and the United States Army and Navy and Morse Wigwag Codes. Reprint of the original edition.

Book Description
The Glossary of Mapping Sciences, a joint publication of the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (ACSM), American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS), and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), contains approximately 10,000 terms that cover the broad professional areas of surveying, mapping and remote sensing. Based on over 150 sources, this glossary west through an extensive review process that included individual experts from the related subject fields and a variety of U.S. federal agencies such as the U.S.Geological Survey. This comprehensive review process helped to ensure the accuracy of the document. The Glossary of Mapping Sciences will find widespread use throughout the related professions and serve as a vehicle to standardize the terminology of the mapping sciences.

Book Description
Norie’s Nautical Tables is the essential requirement for anyone learning and practicing astronavigation. Since J W Norie published the first edition of his Complete Set of Nautical Tables and Epitome of Practical Navigation in 1803, many changes to the tables have been necessary in both content and presentation. New tables have been included, obsolete ones deleted to conform with changing techniques of navigation, with the aim of improving the accuracy of the calculated position and reducing the tedium of the calculation. Since the commissioning of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), its proven accuracy and reliability in all weather conditions have resulted in confidence and almost unquestioning dependence on its ability to provide a vessel’s position, course and speed. Its use is widespread but the marine environment is a hostile one and failure of electronic equipment or of the system itself is a possibility. No prudent seafarer would proceed on an ocean passage without a reliable navigational back-up. The Explanation is in the form of a detailed step-by-step description, by means of worked examples, of the different methods of performing navigational calculations using a scientific calculator and/or the tables. A number of esteemed editors have worked on Nories’ Nautical Tables over the years and this edition includes new contributions from François Hugo. This edition now presents formulae in an appropriate format for direct entry to a scientific calculator. Because the possibility of navigation without even an appropriate calculator exists, the logarithms have been retained. • All the tables required for coastal and deep sea navigation are included • A simple uniform method of interpolation for all the trigonometrical tables is used • Certain tables and data are also included which are not readily available on board ship or are only used in the examination room.
