Book Description
Merchant marines and the military sea transportation ships (MSTS) are featured early in this book to showcase how they have been developed compared to prior wars. Combined with Marines and U.S. Army troop forces on the ground through Viet Cong, an aerial combat campaign was also pursued from American ships. A key component featured within this resource is the organization of the Trans-Pacific Logistics Operation. With Vice Admiral Lawson P. Ramage leadership at the helm, he maintained the flow of essential supplies to the fighting of forces as a method to improve the operations’ function and cost effectiveness. He authorized and administered container ships to include refrigerated cargo that greatly increased the availability of quality food. These logistics helped to improve and expand South Vietnam’s port facilities to enable the delivery of fully-loaded ships. Book Description
This is the sixth monograph in the series The U.S. Navy and the Vietnam War. It covers aircraft carrier activity during Operation Rolling Thunder in the war. Operation Rolling Thunder was one of the longest sustained aerial bombing campaigns in history. And it would be a failure. The U.S. Navy proved essential to the conduct of Rolling Thunder. Exploiting the inherent flexibility and mobility of naval forces, the Seventh Fleet operated with impunity for three years off the coast of North Vietnam. The success with which the Navy executed the later Operation Linebacker campaign against North Vietnam in 1972 revealed how much the service had learned from and exploited the Rolling Thunder experience of 1965–1968. The book includes several photographs with backgrounds of key aircraft used as part of Operation Rolliing Thunder during the Vietnam War. Book Description
This publication explores, in detail and with photographs and illustrations, the April 1975 withdrawal of the American Navy and Marine Corps from Cambodia and South Vietnam (with refugees), and the aftermath in Southeast Asia. This withdrawal showed the courage and skill of the American forces, who had to carry out large-scale and complicated evacuations despite criticism of the military by many Americans back home who had lost confidence in military and government during the protracted conflict. Yet the American forces proved in April 1975 that they were capable of completing complex missions with successful results, and this predicted the future of the military: with appropriate training and the dedication of competent servicemembers, the armed forces were brought back to a strong and healthy state of affairs by the 1980s. Book Description
America's entrance into the wars in Vietnam came as a result of several factors. Among them was the necessity of bolstering French influence in the area in the face of mounting communist expansion. This expansion was intensified by the outbreak of the Korean War, making it necessary for the United States to revamp its Southeast Asian policy. During the French era, control of Vietnam's rivers, streams and canals became necessary. This led various factions to develop specialized military units heavily dependent on new types of river craft that could traverse the myriad waterways in Vietnam. The focal point of this study is a new assessment of the conduct of river warfare. Drawing on little-known French, Vietnamese and American sources and materials, it sheds light on an important aspect of the Vietnam War. Chapters also detail numerous aspects of river warfare not generally covered in other books on the subject.

Book Description
As a 20-year-old gunboat captain and certified U.S. Navy diver in the Mekong Delta, the author was responsible for both the vessel and the lives of its crew. Ambushes and firefights became the norm, along with numerous dives—almost 300 in 18 months. Forty years after the war, he returned as a tourist. This journal records his contrasting impressions of the Delta—alternately disturbing and enlightening—as seen first from a river patrol boat, then from a luxury cruise ship.
