New Information Technologies
Author: Carla Fasano
Publisher: Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development ; [Washington, D.C. : OECD Publications and Information Centre
ISBN:
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 130
Book Description
Issues concerning the introduction of information technology in education were studied as part of a project sponsored by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The following areas were explored: policies for schools and higher education and the context for the policies; implementation strategies; the impact on learning; the impact on teachers, teaching, and the curriculum; the impact on budgets, structures, and students; and possible futures. Educational responses to the challenge of new information technologies that have originated outside the formal educational sector are described, including programs for the general public and young people, and telecommunication-based projects. Strategies of policy implementation in primary and secondary education concern equipment, software, curriculum, and teacher training. Higher education uses information technology to provide computer assisted instruction and to deliver professional continuing education. Additional topics include: the impact of information technology on learning processes (reading, writing, and mathematics learning); cognitive prerequisites of computer programming; partnerships to promote information technology (e.g., between schools and universities); the use of technology in management and employment, and distance learning.
