Book Description
Program effort was directed to continued development of the FMA Linear Pocket and Centrifugal coal feeders and the development of an enlarged batch test loop (one hour run time at 5 tons per hour) to test the feeders. The FMA Linear Pocket Feeder (LPF) met or exceeded all Phase II performance goals. The feeder repeatedly fed coal at 5 tons per hour against a 500 psig back pressure with negligible leakage. The technical feasibility of this concept has been established. Continued development of the LPF under Phase III of the feeder contract has been recommended and approved. Testing of the 200 psi Centrifugal Feeder prototype revealed that the prototype feeder power requirements can be reduced by 45 to 55 percent by incorporating the feeder discharge hoppers into the rotor and streamlining the rotor. Design of the 500 psig Centrifugal Feeder prototype is about 85 percent completed. Design of the enlarged test facility has been completed and erection of the facility is about 20 percent complete.
