Excerpt from Climatological Data, West Virginia, Vol. 59: January, 1951 Temperatures and precipitation averaged slightly above normal while snowfall averaged slightly below normal. Total snowfalls of over 10 inches were confined to the mountain areas. Heavy showers on the 14 - l5th caused local flash floods in the smaller streams. These showers were responsible also for several minor landslides on highways in Ohio Valley counties and also for the flooding of basements in parts of Parkersburg when the sewers backed up. Several thousand dollars property damage was caused by icy streets and roads from the 29th to the end of the month. One death, and about property damage, mostly to automobiles and trucks, were caused by glaze in Parkersburg alone according to reports.
