Book Description
Take a look at the picture on the front of the book. That was me on the far right-hand corner being dragged by a group of students to the museum of natural sciences. Some had never been there and were eager about the content they would learn. When we think of learning, we often associate it with teachers and being in school. Well ladies and gentlemen, learning does not begin and end in a brick-and-mortar classroom. The opportunity to learn lessons are always available, we just have to take the time to recognize them. This book developed from me taking time to reflect on different life lessons I have learned in the workplace, volunteer environment and beyond. By reading them, it is my hope that you can learn from my experience and become better inside and out. The school bell has rung, class is now in session!

Book Description
Without hope, there is nothing. As the child of young, poor Polish immigrant parents who lived on the Lower East Side of New York, Bernard Warach grew up celebrating a life of freedom in America, despite facing seemingly insurmountable odds during an incredibly challenging time in America. This is his story. Bernard suffered an attack of poliomyelitis at the age of three that left him with a withered left leg and diminished strength; even so, he went on to lead a vigorous life. With great attention to detail and the historical events that took place at the time, Bernard narrates an entertaining and dramatic tale that begins with his early experiences in public schools and continues through his graduate training in social work at the University of Pittsburgh. Through anecdotes and personal reflections, Bernard traces the remarkable life journey that eventually led him into fifty years of service with the United States Department of Agriculture and as founding Executive Director for the Jewish Association for Services for the Aged (JASA). Hope: A Memoir provides an intriguing glimpse into the evolution of a family and how one man overcame adversity as a child to live a long, full, and rich life.

Book Description
This book explores the practical and psychological factors that regulate teaching and learning in the classroom, and illustrates how hope and creativity may arise out of unforeseen, non-standard, or turbulent conditions. Written at the intersection of curriculum theory and psychoanalysis, this volume offers an original pedagogical stance that seeks to ameliorate the impact of the classroom’s regulated and standardized environment. The author’s approach to classroom education suggests that teachers investigate students’ psychological entanglements to explain and transform difficult classroom experiences into productive, educative ones. By promoting an ethos of ironic engagement in teaching and learning, this book also demonstrates the importance of playfulness, imagination, and a readiness to make mistakes in classroom settings. This book will be of great interest to graduate and postgraduate students, researchers, academics, and policy makers in the fields of curriculum studies, teacher education, educational psychology and classroom management.

Book Description
Hope has long been a topic of interest for psychologists, philosophers, educators, and physicians. In the past few decades, researchers from various disciplines and from around the world have studied how hope relates to superior academic performance, improved outcomes in the workplace, and improved psychological and physical health in individuals of all ages. Edited by Matthew W. Gallagher and the late Shane J. Lopez, The Oxford Handbook of Hope provides readers with a thorough and comprehensive update on the past 25 years of hope research while simultaneously providing an outline of what leading hope researchers believe the future of this line of research to be. In this extraordinary volume, Gallagher, Lopez, and their expert team of contributors discuss such topics as how best to define hope, how hope is distinguished from related philosophical and psychological constructs, what the current best practices are for measuring and quantifying hope, interventions and strategies for promoting hope across a variety of settings, the impact it has on physical and mental health, and the ways in which hope promotes positive functioning. Throughout its pages, these experts review what is currently known about hope and identify the topics and questions that will help guide the next decade of research ahead.

"Introduces educators and scholars to the legacy and import of Daisaku Ikeda as a singular philosopher, educator, and institution-builder, thus enriching current education discourse. In the process, the book illuminates the benefits of cross-cultural research and learning by considering the relevance of Ikeda's thought not only to established streams of pedagogy and practice in the Deweyan tradition but also to emerging trends in education research such as ecocritical education and critical race feminism"--

Book Description
How theological education can engender life-giving hope for incarcerated women Amid dehumanizing conditions, incarcerated people strive to generate hope. As one returning citizen explains, “Hope is not just sitting around waiting for things to change. Hope is not always an individual making things change. Hope is sometimes a community making things change.” What can theologians, teachers, and chaplains do to assist their work? Sarah F. Farmer amplifies the voices of women who are or have been incarcerated to learn what supports their flourishing. Combining theology and sociology, Farmer shows how theological education can help cultivate the resilience and connection that women describe as life-giving in and after prison. Based in her own ministry, this pedagogy incorporates artistic expression and critical thinking about justice to cultivate agency. Restorative Hope will open readers’ eyes to the lived realities of the US penitentiary system. Educators and theologians seeking to serve those in prison will find a wealth of firsthand perspective and practical resources in these pages.
