Civics: A Preparation for Citizenship offers such a study, a study of the text of Constitution, followed by a discussion of how the Constitution has been interpreted But an American is also a resident in one of the fifty states and in some town or city therein. Therefore, what an American can do for the country relates also to this residency. This being so to be informed must be to know about state and local governments, and this is part of Civics: A Preparation for Citizenship. To be informed is however only part of what a Civics course is about. It must emphasize the duties and responsibilities of citizenship-choosing members of legislatures and executive officers and voting on ballot issues. Such an emphasis is clearly evident on these pages.
