Chemical Equilibria in Soils
Author: Willard Lyman Lindsay
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781930665118
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 449
Book Description
This book's objective is to bridge the gap between soil science and soil chemistry and to show that most reactions taking place in soils can be understood and predicted from basic chemical relationships.

Geochemistry at the Earth’s Surface
Author: Andreas Bauer
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9783642313608
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 315
Book Description
Geochemistry at the surface of the earth is dominated by two somewhat antagonistic forces: chemical reactions which attempt to attain a steady state (equilibrium) and geological movement of materials in time and space which changes the parameters that control chemical equilibrium. Another aspect that is extremely important to earth surface geochemistry is the effect of plants on the chemical and physical stability of materials (soils). Plant systems in fact work against the normal chemical changes (loss of silica, potassium, etc.) and the normal physical changes (stabilizing fine grained materials (clays) in the surface zones to avoid erosion). Biological effects are clearly seen in redox effects in the various parts of the earth surface movement cycle; soil formation, stream transport, sedimentation. This book attempts to outline these different parameters and their interactions as they affect earth surface geochemistry in order to give a better understanding of movement and accumulation of elements at the surface of the earth.

Introduction to Geochemistry
Author: Konrad Bates Krauskopf
Publisher: McGraw-Hill Science, Engineering & Mathematics
ISBN:
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 680
Book Description
Throughout the book, attention is continually directed to the relations between theoretical formulas and results of controlled laboratory experiments, as well as to geologic field observations. The book begins with an introduction to chemical equilibrium, concentrating on the carbonate and silicate equilibria that are important in geologic environments. Next comes a brief look at the chemistry of crystalline solids and reactions at mineral surfaces.
