Charts for Estimating Performance of High-performance Helicopters
Author: Alfred Gessow
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aeronautics
Languages : en
Pages : 33
Book Description
The charts may be used to study the effects of design changes on rotor performance and to indicate optimum performance conditions, as well as to estimate quickly rotor performance in forward flight. They are also useful in obtaining inflow-ratio and pitch-angle values for use in calculating flapping coefficients and spanwise loadings. The method of applying the charts t o performance estimation is illustrated through sample calculation of a typical rotor-performance problem.

Charts for Estimating Rotor-blade Flapping Motion of High-performance Helicopters
Author: Robert J. Tapscott
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Charts, diagrams, etc
Languages : en
Pages : 692
Book Description
Theoretically derived charts showing steady-state and first- and second-harmonic flapping coefficients are presented for helicopter rotors having hinged rectangular blades with a linear twist of 0, -8, and -16 degrees. The charts, showing the rotor flapping coefficients for combinations of inflow ratio and blade pitch angle, are presented for tip-speed ratios ranging from 0.05 to 0.50.

NACA Wartime Reports. Series L.
Author: Herbert W. Talkin
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Charts, diagrams, etc
Languages : en
Pages : 50
Book Description
Charts are presented relating helicopter aerodynamic design variables to performance in steady powered flight. The flight conditions covered are hovering, climb, and horizontal flight. Helicopter speed and lifting rotor power can be found from the charts for known values of fuselage drag coefficient and an average effective blade-element drag coefficient. An abbreviated method for estimating the drag coefficient from the airfoil polar is explained. Although the main emphasis of the report is on relating the design variables to performance, brief consideration is given to the effects of a number of secondary variables, among which are the number of blades, the rotational-energy loss, and the blade shape. An approximate method for estimating the conditions for blade stall is also explained.
