Book Description
Excerpt from Challenging a God In View of the extraordinary fact that this ruler's subjects excel their god in sense Of beauty, nobility, and justice, i do not hesitate to challenge him. I realize that it requires a great deal Of courage to do so. This god, namely, has a powerful helpmate, whose name is Public Opinion. This second god, Public Opinion, is the worst enemy Of progress, sci ence, and truth. It Often tempts a man to be untrue to his convictions. It sometimes keeps him silent when he should speak. Caring more for truth and the soul-progress Of humanity than for public opinion, I shall now proceed to send my challenge. I accuse this god Of having felt infinitely bored; of having passed the dreariness Of the eternal hours in creating balls Of mud and peo pling them with beings; Of having been, and still being, the whimsical, playful owner of human toys; Of having, knowingly, made these toys imperfect, through which imperfection they Often suffer unnameable agonies. Teach children about two extraordinary events in history when the God of the Bible proved himself to be the one true God. Kids today are faced with a huge range of different views on who God is (or isn't). How can they be sure who's got it right? This beautifully illustrated hardback storybook for children aged 3-6 is written by the team behind The Garden, the Curtain and the Cross. It retells two extraordinary events in history when the God of the Bible proved himself to be the one true God. First it takes children back to Elijah's time and the gripping "God contest" between the God of the Bible, Yahweh, and the false god Baal. Then it fast-forwards to a different mountain and another "God contest" at an empty tomb. Once the evidence is examined, it invites kids, in a world of so many options, to decide with confidence to join Team Jesus.

Book Description
In a world riddled with disappointment, malice, and tragedy, what rationale do we have for believing in a benevolent God? If God is all-powerful and all-loving, why is there so much evil in the world? John Stackhouse takes a historically informed approach to this dilemma, examining what philosophers and theologians have said on the subject and offering reassuring answers for thoughtful readers. Stackhouse explores how great thinkers have grappled with the problem of evil--from the Buddha, Confucius, Augustine, and David Hume to Martin Luther, C. S. Lewis, and Alvin Plantinga. Without brushing aside the serious contradictions posed by a God who allows incurable diseases, natural disasters, and senseless crimes to bring misery into our lives, Stackhouse asks if a world completely without evil is what we truly want. Would a life without suffering be a meaningful life? Could free will exist if we were able to choose only good? Stackhouse examines what the best minds have had to say on these questions and boldly affirms that the benefits of evil, in fact, outweigh the costs. Finally, he points to Christian revelation--which promises the transformation of suffering into joy--as the best guide to God's

Book Description
Excerpt from Challenging a God Man has known many gods. Some were mighty, others were grouchy; others, again, were revengeful. When new, undeniable facts were discovered about universe that did not harmonize with man's god-idea, he dismissed the old gentleman, and employed another and more up-to-date one. In fact, whenever man changed his mind for the better, he placed a more efficient and modern ruler at the head of universal business. Not so long ago, a certain civilized race had two world-managers in its employ who engaged in everlasting competition. Which of the two was the mightiest has never been decided. The one whose name was Devil had, to all appearances, a great ability to direct human lives. I believe, however, that he has since fallen in disgrace. Man's intellect has grown. Book Description
“I am not a civil rights hero. I am a warrior, and I am on a mission from God.” —James Meredith James Meredith engineered two of the most epic events of the American civil rights era: the desegregation of the University of Mississippi in 1962, which helped open the doors of education to all Americans; and the March Against Fear in 1966, which helped open the floodgates of voter registration in the South. Part memoir, part manifesto, A Mission from God is James Meredith’s look back at his courageous and action-packed life and his challenge to America to address the most critical issue of our day: how to educate and uplift the millions of black and white Americans who remain locked in the chains of poverty by improving our public education system. Born on a small farm in Mississippi, Meredith returned home in 1960 after nine years in the U.S. Air Force, with a master plan to shatter the system of state terror and white supremacy in America. He waged a fourteen-month legal campaign to force the state of Mississippi to honor his rights as an American citizen and admit him to the University of Mississippi. He fought the case all the way to the Supreme Court and won. Meredith endured months of death threats, daily verbal abuse, and round-the-clock protection from federal marshals and thousands of troops to became the first black graduate of the University of Mississippi in 1963. In 1966 he was shot by a sniper on the second day of his “Walk Against Fear” to inspire voter registration in Mississippi. Though Meredith never allied with traditional civil rights groups, leaders of civil rights organizations flocked to help him complete the march, one of the last great marches of the civil rights era. Decades later, Meredith says, “Now it is time for our next great mission from God. . . . You and I have a divine responsibility to transform America.”
