Book Description
WATERMELON JUICE Happy New Year 2024! Happy to meet again, loyal friends of Armory Reborn! Hope you are all healthy, happy and enthusiastic. Entering the new year 2024, the international community is still concerned about the ongoing war in Europe and the Middle East. In Europe, the Ukraine vs Russia war has not yet shown a clear solution. In the Middle East, the Hamas (Palestine) vs Israel war is still not over. Israel’s attacks on civilians in the Gaza Strip are very severe and concerning. Israel’s plan to “expel” Palestinian civilians from Gaza has become a new problem. Meanwhile, the number of civilian casualties in Gaza has reached more than 21,000. So, Armory Reborn presents a special article highlighting world conditions in 2024. Apart from geopolitical conflicts, 2024 is an important year because several countries will hold general elections this year. Taiwan’s presidential and parliamentary elections are scheduled to take place on January 13, 2024. Competition between presidential candidates is quite tight, amidst Taiwan’s economic decline and tensions in Taipei’s relations with Beijing. Although the issue of relations with China is still significant, socio-economic issues are likely to influence the results of this election. Apart from that, there is a book review that reviews Sovereign Wealth Funds (SWF). The role of SWF has been recognized as increasingly important in recent years. SWF can play a role in supporting infrastructure development in developing countries. Unfortunately, Indonesia does not seem to have built its own SWF base. Indonesia is still lagging behind neighboring countries such as Singapore and Malaysia. For those of you who like military technology, we present an article about the EMB-314 Super Tucano attack aircraft. This aircraft, produced by Embraer Brazil, is quite popular in the global market. Unfortunately, two Super Tucano aircraft belonging to the Indonesian Air Force crashed due to an accident while carrying out flight training last year. We hope that Armory Reborn friends can enjoy all these articles. Satrio Arismunandar Editor in chief

Book Description
The villages on Bali & rsquo;s north-east coast have a long history. Archaeological findings have shown that the coastal settlements of Tejakula District enjoyed trading relations with India as long as 2000 years ago or more. Royal decrees dating from the 10th to the 12th century, inscribed on copper tablets and preserved in the local villages as part of their religious heritage, bear witness to the fact that, over a period of over 1000 years, these played a major role as harbour and trading centres in the transmaritime trade between India and (probably) the Spice Islands. At the same time the inscriptions attest to the complexity in those days of Balinese society, with a hierarchical social organisation headed by a king who resided in the interior precisely where, nobody knows. The interior was connected to the prosperous coastal settlements through a network of trade and ritual. The questions that faced the German-Balinese research team were first: Was there anything left over of this evidently glorious past? And second: Would our professional anthropological and archaeological research work be able to throw any more light on the vibrant past of these villages? This book is an attempt to answer both these and further questions on Bali & rsquo;s coastal settlements, their history and culture.

Book Description
Endogenous development places the major importance in working with local communities on using people's own resources, strategies, and initiatives as the basis for their development. It considers not only the material, but also the socio-cultural and the spiritual resources of people, in order to broaden the options when formulating appropriate development paths, without romanticizing people's traditional worldviews and practices. This book provides ideas, guidelines, and examples of how to put endogenous development into practice. It also shows how field staff can be helped to learn, and how training or learning activities can best be organized, to support endogenous development.

Book Description
We are facing a global energy crisis caused by world population growth, an escalating increase in demand, and continued dependence on fossil-based fuels for generation. It is widely accepted that increases in greenhouse gas concentration levels, if not reversed, will result in major changes to world climate with consequential effects on our society and economy. This is just the kind of intractable problem that Purdue University's Global Policy Research Institute seeks to address in the Purdue Studies in Public Policy series by promoting the engagement between policy makers and experts in fields such as engineering and technology. Major steps forward in the development and use of technology are required. In order to achieve solutions of the required scale and magnitude within a limited timeline, it is essential that engineers be not only technologically-adept but also aware of the wider social and political issues that policy-makers face. Likewise, it is also imperative that policy makers liaise closely with the academic community in order to realize advances. This book is designed to bridge the gap between these two groups, with a particular emphasis on educating the socially-conscious engineers and technologists of the future. In this accessibly-written volume, central issues in global energy are discussed through interdisciplinary dialogue between experts from both North America and Europe. The first section provides an overview of the nature of the global energy crisis approached from historical, political, and sociocultural perspectives. In the second section, expert contributors outline the technology and policy issues facing the development of major conventional and renewable energy sources. The third and final section explores policy and technology challenges and opportunities in the distribution and consumption of energy, in sectors such as transportation and the built environment. The book's epilogue suggests some future scenarios in energy distribution and use.
