Book Description
This collection sheds new light on a common but often overlooked contribution of British art: the sporting print. Highly sought after during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, these prints endure today as vivid, direct, and even witty symbols of English culture. Catching Sight features more than eighty prints and three essays that go beyond the symbolism to examine these works from both art-historical and social perspectives. Malcolm Cormack details the production and sale of sporting prints; Mitchell Merling explores the aesthetic implications of the sophisticated visual languages employed by sporting artists; and Corey Piper analyzes the meaning of the prints in the larger context of late eighteenth- and nineteenth-century rural society. Distributed for the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts

Book Description
Heidegger’s later thought is a thinking of things, so argues Andrew J. Mitchell in The Fourfold. Heidegger understands these things in terms of what he names “the fourfold”—a convergence of relationships bringing together the earth, the sky, divinities, and mortals—and Mitchell’s book is the first detailed exegesis of this neglected aspect of Heidegger’s later thought. As such it provides entrée to the full landscape of Heidegger’s postwar thinking, offering striking new interpretations of the atomic bomb, technology, plants, animals, weather, time, language, the holy, mortality, dwelling, and more. What results is a conception of things as ecstatic, relational, singular, and, most provocatively, as intrinsically tied to their own technological commodification. A major new work that resonates beyond the confines of Heidegger scholarship, The Fourfold proposes nothing less than a new phenomenological thinking of relationality and mediation for understanding the things around us.

Book Description
General John Gibbon was a central figure in two of America's most famous battles. At Gettysburg in 1863, Pickett's Charge was aimed right at Gibbon's troops. In 1876, Gibbon commanded the Montana Column that was to unite with George Armstrong Custer and the 7th Cavalry at the Little Bighorn. Gibbon's arrival with General Terry is what saved the survivors of that disaster. Here in his own words are Gibbon's masterful narratives of his time in the west. Included are his diary from his 1860 journey to Utah, his analysis of the disaster at the Little Bighorn, his campaign against Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce in 1877, and his later friendship with that Chief. He also wrote a wonderful account of a visit to Yellowstone National Park in 1872. Gibbon never completed his memoirs of his career in the west and these articles are what we have to tell the story of one of the most important and remarkable careers in U.S. Army history. Every memoir of the American West provides us with another view of the movement that changed the country forever. For the first time, this long out-of-print volume is available as an affordable, well-formatted book for e-readers and smartphones. Book Description
The chapters in this volume were originally presented as papers at the 2009 colloquium of the Calvin Studies Society, held to mark the five-hundredth anniversary of John Calvin's birth. They offer a fresh evaluation of Calvin's ideas and achievements, and describe how others--from his contemporaries to the present--have responded to or built upon the Calvinist heritage. This book dispels popular misperceptions about Calvin and Calvinism, allowing readers to make a more accurate assessment of Calvin's importance as a theologian and historical figure. Contributions address areas in which Calvin's legacy has been most controversial or misunderstood, such as his attitude toward women, his advocacy of church discipline, and his understanding of predestination. These essays also give a nuanced picture of the impact of Calvinism by taking account of both the positive and negative reactions to it from the early modern period to the present. Part 1: Calvin: The Man and His Work Part 2: Appeal of and Responses to Calvinism Part 3: The Impact of Calvin's Ideas
