Book Description
This report adopts a scenario-based approach to help better understand the forces impacting Canada's energy environment and to address the uncertainties & issues associated with evolving energy markets. It examines two distinct scenarios of Canada's energy future for the public to consider: the supply push scenario, in which technology advances gradually and Canadians take limited action with respect to the environment; and the techno-vert scenario, representing a world in which technology advances rapidly and Canadians take broad actions with respect to the environment & the accompanying preference for environmentally friendly products & cleaner-burning fuels. Projections are made for energy demand in total and in the residential, commercial, industrial, & transportation sectors, plus non-energy demand for hydrocarbons; and for energy supply (production and supply/demand balances) in the electricity, crude oil, natural gas liquids, natural gas, and coal sectors. Issues & implications for demand & supply are discussed. Includes glossary.

Book Description
When this book was published in 1980, the Energy Crisis of the 1970s continued to cast a long shadow across Canadian society. Its bleak analysis of the energy future shows just how deep that shadow was--and is. Wilson's tough, uncompromising study remains important reading for anyone who wants to understand what's at stake in the politics of energy and what needs to be done by government and industry to ensure that the economy of the future will continue to run when non-renewable sources of energy run out. The Energy Squeeze combines detailed analysis of Canada's energy future with prescriptions for action--nationalized supply and pricing, for example--that reflect the crisis atmosphere of the early 1980s.

Book Description
This report projects energy supply and demand for Canada to the year 2035. It includes a Reference Case, with baseline projections based on the current macroeconomic outlook, a moderate view of energy prices, and government policies and programs in place at the time the report was prepared. It is considered the "most likely" outcome for Canada's energy future, given the underlying assumptions. In addition to the Reference Case, the report considers four sensitivity cases to provide a broader perspective and reflect the uncertainty around energy prices and economic growth. The four sensitivity cases are referred to as the High and Low Cases (for high and low prices) and the Fast and Slow Cases (for fast and slow economic growth). The following chapters discuss the key factors influencing the Reference and sensitivity cases, highlighting key changes in Canadian energy supply and demand trends. The detailed data tables supporting this discussion are available in the Appendices on the NEB website.

Book Description
NATIONAL BESTSELLER One of Canada’s leading voices on our energy future offers a powerful case for taking back control of our resources Canada has a world-class resource base and the capacity to become a world leader in the petroleum and other resource-based industries. But as former federal cabinet minister and Alberta premier Jim Prentice argues in this provocative and timely new book, we have lost our way. He outlines how our nation has repeatedly stumbled in its attempts to become a global player in the field, and how our policies and practices have failed to advance Canada’s international interests as an energy producer and exporter with a record of sound environmental achievement. He highlights, for example, our stalled efforts to work with the United States to build new pipelines to the Gulf Coast, and the absence of the infrastructure Canada needs to make further inroads into the Asia-Pacific market. He notes how we have even faltered in our attempts to build pipelines across Canada to service our own citizens, and how Canada has also, to date, failed to craft fair and enduring business partnerships with its own indigenous peoples. Ultimately, one of Canada’s greatest strengths has become a liability—economically, socially and environmentally. But what will the path forward look like? In Triple Crown, Jim Prentice makes a powerful argument for the inadequacy of current Canadian energy policy and asserts a new and forward-looking vision for converting our nation’s vast resources into a secure, prosperous and environmentally responsible future that benefits all Canadians. Completed with his friend and colleague Jean-Sébastien Rioux shortly before Prentice's unexpected death in October 2016 at the age of 60, Triple Crown is a heartening and inspiring must-read, and a lasting legacy for a man who did so much for Canada.
