Book Description
What Do Your Lists Say About You? More and more, we are a nation of list-makers, from grocery lists, New Year's resolutions, and things to do before we die to DVDs to rent and people we've kissed. In To-Do List (based on the popular blog of the same name, todolistblog.com) Sasha Cagen celebrates the humble to-do list, exploring the ways these scribbled agendas reflect our personalities and passions. To-Do List is both a celebration of lists and a peek at the lists that others create. Broken down by subjects like "Daily Lists" to "Sex Lists," it's a fascinating collection of lists from everyday people to the well-known: Novelist Nick Hornby's list of desert island discs A therapist's secret fears ("I HATE having to think about clients in relation to my hair or clothes") A shopping list from chef Alice Waters of Chez Panisse A woman's accomplishments before her thirtieth birthday ("Hot air ballooned over the Serengeti," "Danced on a table in Vegas") Qualities one man is looking for in a future wife, including "Chews with her mouth shut" and "Will let me give my first son the middle name of 'Jacob'" With each list, Cagen offers the story behind it and a prompt for readers to compare notes and take their own stab at a similar list. Voyeuristic and interactive, To-Do List will show you just how much -- and what -- your lists say about you.

Book Description
Walking Hand in Hand with Cameron, Together We Can shares the Enck family's journey into the world of special-needs parenting. Travel with them as they share the feelings they felt as they learned of Cameron's brain damage and their struggles to obtain therapies for Cameron despite obstacles from their HMO. Understand why the Encks' have now made it their mission to educate medical professionals on how to deliver a diagnosis with care and compassion. Also learn why the Encks' are committed to educating people to see Cameron for who he is, not what condition he has. This book is a culmination of Becki's four-year-long personal journey of finding her life's purpose out of one of the hardest, most painful, yet most personally rewarding and enriching experiences of her life. As you read this book, you will understand why the statement Dr. Shah spoke to the Encks' the evening he delivered the news that Cameron had suffered extensive brain damage, "The day you say Cameron will never do something, he never will!," has become their life philosophy.

Juliette’s arguably got the hottest boyfriend ever and the coolest life to go along with it. She’s in her second year at Crescent City Academy of Magics. Forget Penn State. It’s much cooler being a necromancer and a witch, both at the same time. She’s one of those rare duals. And life’s perfect. Or is it? Nah, it’s not. Life’s complicated. Starting with a new necromancer student at the academy who is hellbent on irritating her, though one could argue that he’s hot. Not for her though. There’s no way she’d be interested in anyone but her shifter boyfriend, Jackson. What else could go wrong in her life, though, right? Lots of stuff. Starting with finding out who murdered her mother. Avoiding her homicidal father. Hiding that she’s been studying forbidden spells. Oh, yeah. Juliette’s going to have an interesting second year at Crescent City Academy of Magics.

Book Description
An empty nest does not have to be an empty life. Judy Holland shows you how to get back in touch with yourself, your partner, your life, AND your kids when the house is less-populated. The transition to the empty nest creates a void that can catapult you into existential crisis. Your zeal for climbing the career ladder, striving for social status, and collecting material things starts to subside, as is common in middle age. Friends and relatives may suffer from illness or pass away, bringing jarring reminders of mortality that trigger a need to make sense of it all. HappiNest helps you traverse this passage with grace by distilling the latest social science research and drawing from hundreds of interviews with those who have gone before you. Whether you’re seeking a renaissance in your romantic relationship, dealing with a boomerang child at home, or figuring out how to support aging parents, this book is for you. HappiNest explores a variety of challenges that arise when the house is suddenly empty or emptying, and Judy Holland provides tips and tools for managing the emotions and realities of this new life stage. From dealing with friends, career transitions, rekindling love or leaving a marriage, to reconnecting with genuine interests and passions, this road map will help guide you. There are hills, valleys, thickets, briar patches, and ditches ahead, as well as waterfalls that resolve into pristine ponds. With mindfulness, hard work, and knowledge of experiences, research, and wisdom from seasoned empty nesters, you can create the most golden phase of your life.

Consent Culture and Teen Films

Book Description
Teen films of the 1980s were notorious for treating consent as irrelevant, with scenes of boys spying in girls' locker rooms and tricking girls into sex. While contemporary movies now routinely prioritize consent, ensure date rape is no longer a joke, and celebrate girls' desires, sexual consent remains a problematic and often elusive ideal in teen films. In Consent Culture and Teen Films, Michele Meek traces the history of adolescent sexuality in US cinema and examines how several films from the 2000s, including Blockers, To All the Boys I've Loved Before, The Kissing Booth, and Alex Strangelove, take consent into account. Yet, at the same time, Meek reveals that teen films expose how affirmative consent ("yes means yes") fails to protect youth from unwanted and unpleasant sexual encounters. By highlighting ambiguous sexual interactions in teen films—such as girls' failure to obtain consent from boys, queer teens subjected to conversion therapy camps, and youth manipulated into sexual relationships with adults—Meek unravels some of consent's intricacies rather than relying on oversimplification. By exposing affirmative consent in teen films as gendered, heteronormative, and cis-centered, Consent Culture and Teen Films suggests we must continue building a more inclusive consent framework that normalizes youth sexual desire and agency with all its complexities and ambivalences.
