Book Description
The 12 papers address two issues: problems and techniques in testing and reporting data for strong reinforcement products, and creating a repeatable and reproducible test methodology for those materials. They identify 11 specific problems with the Society's ASTM D 4595 and its ISO counterpart ISO 10

Book Description
Tremendous advances in computer technologies and methods have precipitated a great demand for refinements in the constitutive models of plasticity. Such refinements include the development of a model that would account for material anisotropy and produces results that compare well with experimental data. Key to developing such models-and to meeting many other challenges in the field- is a firm grasp of the principles of continuum mechanics and how they apply to the formulation of plasticity theory. Also critical is understanding the experimental aspects of plasticity and material anisotropy. Integrating the traditionally separate subjects of continuum mechanics and plasticity, this book builds understanding in all of those areas. Part I provides systematic, comprehensive coverage of continuum mechanics, from a review of Carteisian tensors to the relevant conservation laws and constitutive equation. Part II offers an exhaustive presentation of the continuum theory of plasticity. This includes a unique treatment of the experimental aspects of plasticity, covers anisotropic plasticity, and incorporates recent research results related to the endochronic theory of plasticity obtained by the author and his colleagues. By bringing all of these together in one book, Continuum Mechanics and Plasticity facilitates the learning of solid mechanics. Its readers will be well prepared for pursuing either research related to the mechanical behavior of engineering materials or developmental work in engineering analysis and design.

Book Description
A description of both the theory and practice of physical measurements that use high-sensitivity moiré - principally moiré interferometry. The focus here is on the mechanics and micromechanics of materials and structural elements and the book includes new studies published for the first time. Diverse fields are addressed: advanced composite materials, thermal stresses, electronic packaging, fracture, metallurgy, time-dependence, strain gage calibration. All the methods can be applied for whole-field measurements on nearly and solid bodies. This reader-friendly book will serve engineers and scientists who are concerned with measurements of real phenomena, while also stimulating students to pursue the treasures of experimental analysis.

Book Description
The design and assessment of modern high temperature plant demands an understanding of the creep and rupture behaviour of materials under multi axial stress states. Examples include thread roots in steam turbine casing bolts, branch connections in nuclear pressure vessels and blade root fixings in gas or steam turbine rotors. At one extreme the simple notch weakening/notch strengthening characterization of the material by circumferentially vee-notched uniaxial rupture tests, as specified in many national standards, may be sufficient. These were originally intended to model thread roots and their conservatism is such that they frequently are considered adequate for design purposes. At the other extreme full size or model component tests may be employed to determine the safety margins built into design codes. This latter approach is most commonly used for internally pressurized components, particularly where welds are involved. However, such tests are extremely expensive and the use of modern stress analysis techniques combined with a detailed knowledge of multiaxial properties offers a more economic alternative. Design codes, by their nature, must ensure conservatism and are based on a material's minimum specified properties. In the case of high temperature components the extension of life beyond the nominal design figure, say from 100000 to 200000 h, offers very significant economic benefits. However, this may require a more detailed understanding of the multiaxial behaviour of a specific material than was available at the design stage.
