Part 3 of a series. When I saw her from across the bar with her pretty little face, her big brown eyes, her long black hair and her beautiful body, I just knew that I would never be able to shake her from my damn mind. She turned my life upside down from the day I laid eyes on her. But then, the situation changed. She saw something she shouldn’t have seen. Found out who I really was. The truth behind my rugged exterior. But you know the rules of the Corsican Mafia. No witnesses… So I had to take her in. I had to make her my hostage. And I had to make her my wife… Whether she liked it or not.

Few works of contemporary literature are so universally acclaimed as central to our understanding of the human experience as Nobel Prize winner Samuel Beckett’s famous trilogy. Molloy, the first of these masterpieces, appeared in French in 1951. It was followed seven months later by Malone Dies and two years later by The Unnamable. All three have been rendered into English by the author.

Book Description
This study, while surveying all of Samuel Beckett's major fiction, focuses on the work that he regarded as his masterpiece: the trilogy of novels Molloy, Malone Dies, and The Unnamable. It analyzes the ways in which Beckett, as he moves from one novel to the next, demystifies each of the principal idols to which human beings have looked for protection and guidance in the successive phases of their history. In part one of Molloy this role is assumed by the figure of the mother and the various women who minister to Molloy's needs in the course of his journey. In part two, these maternal figures are replaced by Youdi and other male authority figures, including Father Ambrose, who embody the rule of paternal law. In Malone Dies, we enter the period of modern individualism, in which, freed from dependence upon the parental figures that had dominated Molloy, Malone ("man alone") looks vainly to himself for the guidance that they had formerly provided.

Book Description
Kafka's struggle with spiritual deadlock helped Beckett, at crucial impasses in his own art, to find his way to Molloy and the trilogy, and later, to discern the importance of torture to the creative imagination, especially in How It Is.". "This book will interest those seeking a new, absorbing reading of Beckett's great prose."--BOOK JACKET.

Book Description
Following The Broken Estate, The Irresponsible Self, and How Fiction Works—books that established James Wood as the leading critic of his generation—The Fun Stuff confirms Wood's preeminence, not only as a discerning judge but also as an appreciator of the contemporary novel. In twenty-three passionate, sparkling dispatches—that range over such crucial writers as Thomas Hardy, Leon Tolstoy, Edmund Wilson, and Mikhail Lermontov—Wood offers a panoramic look at the modern novel. He effortlessly connects his encyclopedic, passionate understanding of the literary canon with an equally in-depth analysis of the most important authors writing today, including Cormac McCarthy, Lydia Davis, Aleksandar Hemon, and Michel Houellebecq. Included in The Fun Stuff are the title essay on Keith Moon and the lost joys of drumming—which was a finalist for last year's National Magazine Awards—as well as Wood's essay on George Orwell, which Christopher Hitchens selected for the Best American Essays 2010. The Fun Stuff is indispensable reading for anyone who cares about contemporary literature.

Book Description
Video is a part of everyday life, comparable to driving a car or taking a shower. It is nearly omnipresent, available on demand and attached to nearby anything, anywhere. Online Video became something vital and independent. With all the video created by the cameras around us, constantly uploading, sharing, linking, and relating, a blue ocean is covering our planet, an ocean of video. What might look as bluish noise and dust from the far outside, might embed beautiful and fascinating living scapes of moving images, objects constantly changing, re-arranging, assembling, evolving, collapsing, but never disappearing, a real cinema. Andreas Treske describes and theorizes these objects formerly named video, their forms, behaviours and properties.
