Book Description
This thoroughly researched overview on one of the most absorbing literary phenomena of recent decades—the trespassing of cultural and linguistic borders—departs from the canonical point of view offered by the English works of the Nobel laureate, Russian-American poet and essayist Joseph Brodsky, to approach the work of the emerging Hungarian-English poet Ágnes Lehóczky. Through the epistemological filter offered by some guiding texts (such as Bauman, Hall, Braidotti, and many others), this study allows the reader to discover the recounting of a search for an identity, where the adoption of English as an artistic vehicle is only the first thread that unites the two “nomadic” authors. Striving to “locate” language and identity, Brodsky and Lehóczky face the limits of doing so, due to the fluid and nomadic nature of language itself. This suggests, if not answers, then new ways of expression, which draw the language of our future.

A remarkable anthology to acquaint you intimately with the Capital cities of the world, it describes in exquisite detail their undulating terrains and pulsating lifelines and their cities beckon even the most seasoned traveller with promises of discovery. Embark on a journey like never before, as Kwame Dawes in his poem Green Boy takes you to a night in Accra when the crescendo of drums finally overcomes the gunshots, or accompany Mark Mcwatt as he drifts down memory lane in the suburbs of Georgetown, and feel the raw emotion as Salah Al Hamdani laments of what has become of Baghdad. From Abuja to Zagreb, Seoul to Sucre, Ottawa to Wellington and Reykjavik to Cape Town, leave behind the trepidations of the unknown and the comforts of home, discard the frivolities of journeying to the physical facade of a beloved city-and set out to experience the world anew, for what this book offers you is a journey for the soul.

Book Description
Using a wide range of previously unpublished archival, written, and visual sources, Hungarian Women's Activism in the Wake of the First World War offers the first gendered history of the aftermath of the First World War in Hungary. The book examines women's activism during the post-war revolutions and counter-revolution. It describes the dynamic of the period's competing, liberal, Christian-conservative, socialist, radical socialist, and right-wing nationalistic women's movements and pays special attention to women activists of the Right. In this original study, Judith Szapor goes on to convincingly argue that illiberal ideas on family and gender roles, tied to the nation's regeneration and tightly woven into the fabric of the interwar period's right-wing, extreme nationalistic ideology, greatly contributed to the success of Miklós Horthy's regime. Furthermore the book looks at the long shadow that anti-liberal, nationalist notions of gender and family cast on Hungarian society and provides an explanation for their persistent appeal in the post-Communist era. This is an important text for anyone interested in women's history, gender history and Hungary in the 20th century.

Book Description
The Habsburg Empire was one of the first regions where the academic study of Judaism took institutional shape in the nineteenth century. In Hungary, scholars such as Leopold and Immanuel Löw, David Kaufmann, Ignaz Goldziher, Wilhelm Bacher, and Samuel Krauss had a lasting impact on the Wissenschaft des Judentums (“Science of Judaism”). Their contributions to Biblical, rabbinic and Semitic studies, Jewish history, ethnography and other fields were always part of a trans-national Jewish scholarly network and the academic universe. Yet Hungarian Jewish scholarship assumed a regional tinge, as it emerged at an intersection between unquelled Ashkenazi yeshiva traditions, Jewish modernization movements, and Magyar politics that boosted academic Orientalism in the context of patriotic historiography. For the first time, this volume presents an overview of a century of Hungarian Jewish scholarly achievements, examining their historical context and assessing their ongoing relevance.
