Book Description
This book is a practical guide for psychiatrists to use when treating patients for medical issues. Over the past 10-20 years, the number of medications prescribed for psychiatric illnesses has steadily increased, and psychiatric practitioners are frequently called upon to manage medical issues and side effects that result from psychotropic treatment. Covering a wide range of conditions from thyroid disorders to cardiac disease, this book is a helpful resource for understanding common adverse medical effects that occur when psychotropic drugs are administered. Presented in a practical format, each chapter discusses management of a particular medical problem or side effect and then provides a summary and flowchart of the major points highlighted in that chapter. Each chapter contains an overview of key medications causing a particular side effect. The book also includes special topics such as psychotropic prescribing in medical illness and tips on electrocardiographic interpretation. This easy-to-reference book aims to bridge the gap between medicine and psychiatry by elaborating on medical conditions seen in routine outpatient psychiatric practice. It serves as an invaluable tool for mental health providers, nurses, health educators, and pharmacologists alike.

Book Description
“Bruxism” (Teeth Grinding or Clenching): Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis & Management. An Overview. characterized by clenching or grinding of the teeth and/or by bracing or thrusting of the mandible. There is no widely accepted definition of bruxism. The causes of bruxism are not completely understood, but probably involve multiple factors. Bruxism is a common behavior; reports of prevalence range from 8% to 31% in the general population. Several symptoms are commonly associated with Bruxism. Symptoms may be minimal, without patient awareness of the condition. There are two main types of Bruxism: 1. One occurs during sleep (Nocturnal bruxism) and 2. One during wakefulness (Awake bruxism). Awake bruxism is more common in women, whereas men and women are affected in equal proportions by sleep bruxism and is thought to have different causes from sleep bruxism. Several treatments are in use, although there is little evidence of robust efficacy for any particular treatment. Treatment modalities involve: · Occlusal correction, · Behavioral changes and · Pharmacological approach. An effort has been made in this E-Booklet to explicate elaboratively the causes, classification, diagnosis, management and various treatment modalities along with few illustrations and a table of comparison (Awake v/s Sleep Bruxism)to serve as a ready reference for this intriguing entity of Bruxism.
