Book Description
“In the summer of 1959, the year in which most of our group were twenty-one, when Harold Macmillan was Prime Minister, and we’d never had it so good, a small group from King’s College Cambridge set out for a travelling holiday during the long vacation which took just over five weeks. It was probably the last time before retirement we’d ever enjoy so much free time...” In 1959, four student friends from Cambridge join a party travelling by train to Greece. Their train, the Tauern Express, takes three days to make the journey across Europe from Ostend – a long way from the convenience of international trips today. Over their six weeks backpacking abroad, the travellers discover a way of life very different from their own and a country struggling to emerge from the ravages of war. As they make their way across Greece, they take the opportunity to explore Greece’s rich array of historical places of interest, and meet a host of colourful characters. In this fascinating re-creation of their Odyssey, Bright Tracks opens a time capsule into 1950s Europe and reveals attitudes of the time and adventures they will never forget. Bright Tracks is a lively, often humorous account of a world now lost to the modern tourist. Lavishly illustrated with over 160 photographs, including pictures Richard and his companions took back in 1959, it will appeal to those with an interest in Greek history and culture, as well as those looking to reminisce on their own travelling days.

FROM BEST-SELLING AUTHORS TRAVIS S. TAYLOR AND JODY LYNN NYE.A teenage girl and her fellow Bright Sparks must do what it takes to stay alive and achieve success in this sequel to Moon Beam. Barbara Winton and the rest of the Bright Sparks, Dr. Keegan Bright’s team of young scientists, find themselves facing a challenge that will test all of their scientific skills and personal courage. They are competing in the first ever race to completely circle the Moon. The Sparks, and twenty-five other teams, have to count on one another as they face thousands of kilometers of unknown dangers, where even a simple accident can have fatal consequences. They form close friendships with racers from all over Earth, but also have to deal with former Spark, Pam, a mysterious and threatening figure whose departure from the Sparks program is shrouded in mystery. While the Sparks compete in the race, Dr. Bright himself is part of a groundbreaking project to seek out rare minerals underneath a crater. On the far side of the Moon, in the airless, frozen depths beneath the lunar surface, disaster strikes. On the thinly settled Moon only the Bright Sparks may be close enough help him. The young scientist find themselves not only racing for victory, but to save their beloved mentor. At the publisher's request, this title is sold without DRM (Digital Rights Management). Praise for prequel Moon Beam: “Taylor and Nye offer up a tense escapade with engaging characters and a fast-paced plot, but their true focus is on scientific detail, plausibility, and ingenuity . . . it’s an entertaining and even educational offering, perfect for those who demand science in their science fiction.”—Publishers Weekly Praise for the work of Jody Lynn Nye: "Infused with humor to keep you entertained and action to make you turn the pages."—Kirkus on Jody Lynn Nye’s Rhythm of the Imperium “I thoroughly enjoyed it, the plot, the settlement, the whole nine yards, and especially the twitch of humor at odd moments...a book I can thoroughly recommend.” —Anne McCaffrey “An unusual story well-told, with characters it's a real pleasure to spend time with.” —David Drake "[An] innovative take on the well-loved theme of fairies and dangerous wishes." —Publishers Weekly on Wishing on a Star by Jody Lynn Nye and Angelina Adams About Travis S. Taylor: “[E]xplodes with inventive action.—Publishers Weekly on Travis S. Taylor’s The Quantum Connection. “[Warp Speed] reads like Doc Smith writing Robert Ludlum. . .You won’t want to put it down”—John Ringo

Book Description
The book shows a very original organization addressing in a non traditional way, but with a systematic approach, to who has an interest in using mathematics in the social sciences. The book is divided in four parts: (a) a historical part, written by Vittorio Capecchi which helps us understand the changes in the relationship between mathematics and sociology by analyzing the mathematical models of Paul F. Lazarsfeld, the model of simulation and artificial societies, models of artificial neural network and considering all the changes in scientific paradigms considered; (b) a part coordinated by Pier Luigi Contucci on mathematical models that consider the relationship between the mathematical models that come from physics and linguistics to arrive at the study of society and those which are born within sociology and economics; (c) a part coordinated by Massimo Buscema analyzing models of artificial neural networks; (d) a part coordinated by Bruno D’Amore which considers the relationship between mathematics and art. The title of the book "Mathematics and Society" was chosen because the mathematical applications exposed in the book allow you to address two major issues: (a) the general theme of technological innovation and quality of life (among the essays are on display mathematical applications to the problems of combating pollution and crime, applications to mathematical problems of immigration, mathematical applications to the problems of medical diagnosis, etc.) (b) the general theme of technical innovation and creativity, for example the art and mathematics section which connects to the theme of creative cities. The book is very original because it is not addressed only to those who are passionate about mathematical applications in social science but also to those who, in different societies, are: (a) involved in technological innovation to improve the quality of life; (b) involved in the wider distribution of technological innovation in different areas of creativity (as in the project "Creative Cities Network" of UNESCO).

Book Description
The first edition of the collected poetry and prose of the Restoration feminist, Mary, Lady Chudleigh (1656-1710), this volume includes The Ladies Defence as well as her final prose meditations. New biographical and bibliographical information in the Introduction revises the existing accounts of her life and literary career. The volume makes available for the first time the complete range of Chudleigh's literary experiments and calls for a reassessment of the image of the woman writer of the Restoration. A friend of John Dryden and Mary Astell, Chudleigh experimented with a variety of literary forms, from satire to biblical paraphrase, but always maintained her belief in the importance of education for women and the necessity for self-determination.
