Book Description
The Alaska Gold Rush is the least studied era of United States history. If you pull up Alaska Gold Rush on Wikipedia, you will get the Klondike Gold Rush. The Klondike Gold Rush was centered around Dawson in Canada's Yukon Territory and lasted 14 months. The Alaska Gold Rush lasted 40 years, from 1880 to the end of the First World War, and covered an area one-fifth that of the Lower 48 states. Bonfire Saloon is not a work of narrative poetry. It is a book of history disguised as literature. The slang, words, terms, and expressions would be used in a saloon in 1903 in a gold rush. The names of the people are authentic, and the events in the book happened. Bonfire Saloon is a ground-level look at the events and personalities of 39 individuals on a single night in a Nome saloon.

Book Description
FEAR OF THE GUN: In February 1849, Lorenzo, a Mexican-American war veteran, walks west from Albuquerque toward the Alta California gold fields. Lost in the Ponderosa Pines of the San Francisco Peaks Mountain range, Lorenzo is saved from hypothermia and Cholera by Hanna, a Jewish sheep rancher living alone. Hanna and Lorenzo build a supply station for the surveyors and crews of the Beale Wagon Road, while Hanna schools their three children, Jeremiah, Zachary, and Sarah. Tragedy prompts Lorenzo to join the New Mexico Volunteers during The Civil War. He leaves Zachary (eleven) and Hanna to manage the ranch. Zachary, an adult in 1884, moves back to Flagstaff, vowing justice for the wrongs he has witnessed. Awaiting the arrival of the Deputy U.S. Marshal from Phoenix, Zachary and Hanna confront the violent man from their past alone. FEAR OF THE GUN explores the American Civil War and slavery from an isolated mountain in the frontier wilderness of the Arizona Territory. Historically accurate, this exhilarating story of one man’s relationship with guns has relevance in today’s firearm prevalent American society.

Book Description
In 2002 much of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado was rich in dry vegetation as a result of fire exclusion and the droughty conditions that prevailed in recent years. These dry and heavy fuel loadings were continuous along the South Platte River corridor located between Denver and Colorado Springs on the Front Range. These topographic and fuel conditions combined with a dry and windy weather system centered over eastern Washington to produce ideal burning conditions. The start of the Hayman Fire was timed and located perfectly to take advantage of these conditions resulting in a wildfire run in 1 day of over 60,000 acres and finally impacting over 138,000 acres. The Hayman Fire Case Study, involving more than 60 scientists and professionals from throughout the United States, examined how the fire behaved, the effects of fuel treatments on burn severity, the emissions produced, the ecological (for example, soil, vegetation, animals) effects, the home destruction, postfire rehabilitation activities, and the social and economic issues surrounding the Hayman Fire. The Hayman Fire Case Study revealed much about wildfires and their interactions with both the social and natural environments. As the largest fire in Colorado history it had a profound impact both locally and nationally. The findings of this study will inform both private and public decisions on the management of natural resources and how individuals, communities, and organizations can prepare for wildfire events.
