Book Description
If you enjoy "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" and "Charlotte's Web" than you are bound to enjoy this delightful and vividly illustrated tale. But first, let me tell you why I wrote the story. One Christmas, I received two beautiful colorful beaded spiders, each accompanied with a poem "The Legend of the Christmas Spider". Each had their own version of the tale, but the main topics were the same. Spiders spinning "dusty gray spider webs" on these beautiful Christmas trees and a "young mother" who, in this adaptation, is now a "Nana".I loved the poems and researching them, I discovered they originated in an Eastern European country. The legends have been kept alive by being passed on from generation to generation throughout the old world into the present. I found this intriguing and as a creative artist and bead designer, I was inspired so, I adapted the legend, as an American Adaptation, to include the "Christmas Story" ... Believing in the birth of Baby Jesus and in the "Magic of Christmas" cleverly told through the eyes of one special spider ... introducing "Bitsy", the most curious spider of all. This tale unfolds with Bitsy not only discovering her first Christmas tree ... encountering Santa Claus ... witnessing "Christmas Magic" and seeing spider webs turn into "silver tinsel:; but, also, experiencing the joy of celebrating Christmas with family. And with the trusty help of, the eldest, wisest spider, E.W., she embarks on her journey "discovering truths of major importance".Leading Bitsy to learn how she, left her mark spinning the image of a "sparkling golden crystal diamond" the Christmas Star" in the night sky as her "dusty gray spider web" on the Christmas tree. Her design becomes the most inspirational symbol not nly to see but it carries the greatest message the "The Christmas Story", for the whole world to hear. This adaptation introduces the Baker's Dozen family. They bring this "ol' world legend" to life by keeping past traditions alive and blending the present customs to make sure these are passed down to the new generation of countless tomorrows.

Book Description
Through the ages, there have been legends passed down explaining how things came to be. The Legend of the Christmas Spider is no exception. This book tells the story of how we might decorate our Christmas trees in this day and age. Though the origin of this folktale has been lost in time, it is very well known in Eastern Europe, especially Western Ukraine. In that part of the world, it is widely held as good luck to find a spider or a spiderweb on the Christmas tree, so it comes as no surprise to find spider-shaped ornaments during the holiday season. Some homes still use artificial spider webs and apply it to their Christmas tree as a tradition.

Book Description
A fascinating survey of the entire history of tall tales, folklore, and mythology in the United States from earliest times to the present, including stories and myths from the modern era that have become an essential part of contemporary popular culture. Folklore has been a part of American culture for as long as humans have inhabited North America, and increasingly formed an intrinsic part of American culture as diverse peoples from Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania arrived. In modern times, folklore and tall tales experienced a rejuvenation with the emergence of urban legends and the growing popularity of science fiction and conspiracy theories, with mass media such as comic books, television, and films contributing to the retelling of old myths. This multi-volume encyclopedia will teach readers the central myths and legends that have formed American culture since its earliest years of settlement. Its entries provide a fascinating glimpse into the collective American imagination over the past 400 years through the stories that have shaped it. Organized alphabetically, the coverage includes Native American creation myths, "tall tales" like George Washington chopping down his father's cherry tree and the adventures of "King of the Wild Frontier" Davy Crockett, through to today's "urban myths." Each entry explains the myth or legend and its importance and provides detailed information about the people and events involved. Each entry also includes a short bibliography that will direct students or interested general readers toward other sources for further investigation. Special attention is paid to African American folklore, Asian American folklore, and the folklore of other traditions that are often overlooked or marginalized in other studies of the topic.
