Book Description
Circadian rhythms have been shown to be ubiquitous and critically important in the experimental laboratory, accounting for the difference between life and death in response to identical stimulus. The partly endogenous nature of circadian rhythms has been well documented and methods for their characterisation have been developed enabling the cellular and molecular mechanisms to be understood. Chronobiology and Chronomedicine aims to provide a review of these mechanisms underlying circadian rhythms and illustrate the role of the brain’s suprachiasmatic nuclei in the ‘pace-making’ process and the effects caused by ‘clock genes’ present in almost all cells. Beyond the mechanisms involved, the book discusses the relationship between body systems, disease, and proper circadian function; in particular, how disruption of the circadian rhythm is associated with ill health and disease status from observations made at the organismic level. The book is organised to be an ideal introduction for the postgraduate in various fields, reviewing developments and outlining methods to show the depth and breadth of chronobiology and chronomedicine, as well as an invaluable companion to researchers and healthcare professionals working in the field with an interest in developing novel therapeutic approaches.

Book Description
Meiosis is a special type of cell division that allows the generation of haploid gametes and is a key process for sexual reproduction of animals, plants and fungi. Haploidization requires that meiotic cells undergo a series of unique processes; namely, pairing, synapsis, recombination and segregation of homologous chromosomes. This involves profound meiosis-specific changes in the protein composition and architecture of homologous chromosomes as well as of the condensation and folding of chromatin that require a critical timing and regulation. Despite this enormous complexity, different organisms may achieve haploidization through common molecular mechanisms. A major goal of this article collection is to provide an overview of how meiotic chromosomes and their components are critically involved in the mechanisms of haploidization and how dynamic protein complexes yield important structural intermediates and temporal regulation to this process. We welcome submissions of original articles, mini-reviews and review articles dealing with the composition, architecture, function and regulation of meiotic chromosomes of animals, plants and fungi using microscopic, biochemical, molecular, genetic and/or ‘omic’ techniques.

Book Description
Zoonosis is an infectious disease that has jumped from non-human animals to humans. To date, more than 200 known types of zoonoses have been identified, and 60% of emerging infectious diseases are zoonotic. It is estimated that zoonoses are responsible for 2.5 billion cases of human illness and 2.7 million human deaths worldwide each year, and 50-60% of the global population (5–6 billion) are projected to be at risk of zoonotic infections. Emerging and re-emerging zoonoses, such as monkeypox, Ebola, SARS, MERS, Zika, Rickettsia, and Mycobacteria, pose an immense and growing threat to global health, economy, and safety. As of September 26, 2022, there have been more than 600 million cases confirmed with COVID-19, and 6,514,397 deaths occurred due to this highly communicable disease. Identification of the immunological aspects of emerging and re-emerging zoonoses may facilitate the diagnosis, vaccine, and therapeutics development of emerging and re-emerging zoonoses.

Book Description
Zusammenfassung: This detailed collection explores thermomorphogenesis, a discipline that unravels the intricacies of warm temperature responses in plants. How plants perceive, interpret, and respond to elevated temperatures has far-reaching implications for agriculture, ecology, and our fundamental understanding of plant development, and this book presents techniques to help researchers delve into this area of study. Beginning with a section on thermomorphogenesis responses, the volume continues with numerous chapters on temperature sensing and temperature signaling. Written for the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step and readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and practical, Thermomorphogenesis: Methods and Protocols serves as an ideal guide to this vital subject for research laboratories, as well as for graduate and undergraduate laboratory courses in plant molecular biology
