En el trabajo que presentamos hemos procedido al estudio de las actitudes lingüísticas hacia el español y hacia el inglés de los hispanos, en general, y de los hispanos con formación universitaria, en particular, residentes en el área de Nueva Inglaterra (Estados Unidos).Nuestra investigación se suma así a los cuantiosos estudios que analizan algún aspecto del español de los Estados Unidos. No obstante, dado que la mayoría de los estudios se enmarcan geográficamente en los enclaves tradicionalmente poblados por hispanos, como California, Florida, Nueva York o Texas, consideramos necesario expandir las investigaciones hacia zonas que han recibido una menor atención, como lo es el área de Nueva Inglaterra, conformada por los estados de Maine, Nuevo Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island y Connecticut.
