Book Description
Bergmann’s Comet, Bk 3, builds on the two previous books: Batwing – Bergmann’s Commitment, Bk 1, and Bergmann’s Team, Bk 2, continuing the story of a trio of comets hurled out of the Oort Cloud threatening Earth’s civilizations. Bergmann’s small group assists Banderat and Striver vacuum grunts to divert the comets and minimize catastrophic terrestrial impact. Guy and Nita Bergmann join with a small group of ex-NASA astronauts to emplace crude drivers on the surface of Comet 1. The drives create a small lateral thrust redirecting the comet to just miss Earth. Two of the three comets are redirected to impact Mars: the first stage of a massive terraforming effort to prepare that second Human planet for a colony. Bergmann Ventures, Inc., Guy’s space venture, prepares for a post-comet growth phase that will place Humans in space permanently so they may interact with the Concordat’s Hub Planets and cultures. Bergmann’s Equestrian Venture, Bk 4, relates the first phase of the post-comet expansion into space with the introduction of horses to the concordat planet Baldon. Bergmann’s Orbitat, Bk 5, defines the construction of an orbital habitat at L5 allowing easy access to both the Lunar surface and Mars.

Book Description
Bergmann's Team continues Guy and Nita's effort to acquire a Human Team to assist Banderat and Striver engineers in diverting the comets threatening Earth. The core of their team: Guy, Nita and the Twins, demonstrate they can go EVA and perform well in space outside the Striver starship Dawn Star, surprising both Strivers and Banderat. They recruit NASA trained astronauts to join them; the Team moves up to "Terra House" aboard the starship for the interim, training before the comets reach Mars. Guy and the Twins rescue four young Banderat juveniles and put down a Banderat mutiny, freeing a captured Striver trooper, demonstrating Humans possess altruism and will fight when compelled. They augment their team and begin preparing Earth's governments for the oncoming comet storm. They make plans for post-comet business and plan for space tourism as one way to pay for routine access to orbital life and business.

Book Description
“BERGMANN’S ORBITAT”, Bk 5, details the return of Bergmann’s Team from Stavara in the Hub, bringing back a Banderat shuttle, Accelerator, they will use to construct an orbital habitat at L5, one of the Earth-Moon libration points, using current engineering practice. Bergmann’s orbital habitat, BV1, is spun on its axis at slow speed, to create artificial gravity so residents and visitors aren’t debilitated by living in zero-G. The L5 location allows easy access to both the Lunar surface and Mars mission launches. Bergmann Ventures, Inc., BVI, will recoup some of the cost by selling seats to visit the orbitat and dine in its new restaurant, offering stunning views of Earth far “below”. Trips to a new permanent monbase at Cabeus Crater will help generate revenue.

Book Description
Bergmann’s Equestrian Venture is the 4th book in the nine-book series. Earth was spared the brunt of a comet-induced planet-wide winter by the Striver-led, Banderat-implemented, redirection of three comets. Bergmann’s Team played an important part in that cometary redirection. Now the Team has been invited to move a small herd of horses to the planet Baldon: Banderat would like to ride! This venture is the first feat Guy hopes to execute in his long-term plans to forge an extraterrestrial Human presence. The interstellar trip aboard Climber, a first for Humans, is a prelude to their successful arrival at the city of Bandalu, where they help finish an equestrian resort. Nita’s ‘surprise’ is a shock to all the team: the first Human child to be born off Earth. A family of Sayen reveals their presence to Guy, Nita, Greg and Raquel, on the mountain slope above Highlands Resort. The presence of a hidden seventh sapient race sends Shockwaves through the Concordat.

Book Description
Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts aims to present a comprehensive documen tation of the literature concerning all aspects of astronomy, astrophysies, and their border fields. It is devoted to the recording, summarizing, and indexing of the relevant publications throughout the world. Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts is prepared by a special department of the Astronomisches Rechen-Institut under the auspices of the International Astronomical Union. Volume 44 records literature published in 1987 and received before February 15, 1988. Some older documents which we received late and which are not surveyed in earlier volumes are inc1uded too. We acknowledge with thanks contributions of our colleagues all over the world. We also express our gratitude to all organiza tions, observatories, and publishers which provide us with complimentary copies of their publications. Dr. Siegfried Böhme retired from his duties as co-editor of Astronomy and Astro physics Abstracts on December 31, 1987. Since 1950 he partieipated in the biblio graphie work of the institute. He served as a reviewer for the Astronomischer Jahresbericht and became one of the editors of Astronomy and Astrophysics Ab stracts in 1969. After his retirement in 1975 he took care of, particularly, the Russian literature on a voluntary basis for 12 years. It is a pleasure to thank Siegfried Böhme for his valuable contributions. Starting with Volume 33, all the recording, correction, and data processing work was done by means of computers. The recording was done by our technical staff members Ms. Helga Ballmann, Ms. Christiane Jehn, Ms. Monika Kohl, Ms.

Book Description
Religion was integral to the conduct of war in the ancient world and the Romans were certainly no exception. No campaign was undertaken, no battle risked, without first making sacrifice to propitiate the appropriate gods (such as Mars, god of War) or consulting oracles and omens to divine their plans. Yet the link between war and religion is an area that has been regularly overlooked by modern scholars examining the conflicts of these times. This volume addresses that omission by drawing together the work of experts from across the globe. The chapters have been carefully structured by the editors so that this wide array of scholarship combines to give a coherent, comprehensive study of the role of religion in the wars of the Roman Empire. Aspects considered in depth include: the Imperial cults and legionary loyalty; the army and religious/regional disputes; Trajan and religion; Constantine and Christianity; omens and portents; funerary cults and practices; the cult of Mithras; the Imperial sacramentum; religion & Imperial military medicine.
