Book Description
Becoming a Candidate: Political Ambition and the Decision to Run for Office explores the factors that drive political ambition at the earliest stages. Using data from a comprehensive survey of thousands of eligible candidates, Jennifer L. Lawless systematically investigates what compels certain citizens to pursue elective positions and others to recoil at the notion. Lawless assesses personal factors, such as race, gender and family dynamics, that affect an eligible candidate's likelihood of considering a run for office. She also focuses on eligible candidates' professional lives and attitudes toward the political system.

Book Description
Under the Constitution of the United States, those with political ambitions who aspire to serve in the federal government must be at least twenty-five to qualify for membership in the House of Representatives, thirty to run for the Senate, and thirty-five to become president. What is the justification for these age thresholds, and is it time to consider changing them? In this provocative and lively book, John Seery presents the case for a constitutional amendment to lower the age barrier to eighteen, the same age at which citizens become eligible to vote. He divides his argument into three sections. In a historical chapter, he traces the way in which the age qualifications became incorporated in the Constitution in the first place. In a theoretical chapter, he analyzes the normative arguments for office eligibility as a democratic right and liberty. And in a political chapter, he ruminates about the real-world consequences of passing such an amendment and the prospects for its passage. Finally, in a postscript, he argues that younger citizens in particular ought to be exposed to this fundamental issue in civics.

Book Description
Our Playbook provides any Top Candidate with a proven, step-by-step process to landing the opportunity they want most. When you set out on your search, you're likely to get all kinds of advice. One of the most common misconceptions we've seen is the idea of the resume blast, shooting your application to literally hundreds of potential employers in the hope that a small percentage of those will turn into interviews, of which an even smaller percentage of those might turn into actual offers. In our experience, this is time-consuming, inefficient and highly unlikely to net you the results you're seeking.Rather than approaching the job-seeking process with a "numbers game" mentality, The Top Candidate Playbook walks you through the process of optimally positioning yourself for success through a highly targeted, acutely focused approach. This workbook-style playbook takes you step-by-step through the entire process, from in-depth self-evaluation to detailed guidance regarding resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles, interviews, salary negotiations and more. Actionable, relevant and insightful, this Playbook is a proven game-changer and available exclusively Amazon.

Book Description
In this first-of-kind book, senior psychoanalysts from around the world offer personal reflections on their own training, what it was like to become a psychoanalyst, and what they would like most to convey to the candidate of today. With forty-two personal letters to candidates, this edited collection helps analysts in training and those recently entering the profession to reflect upon what it means to be a psychoanalytic candidate and enter the profession. Letters tackle the anxieties, ambiguities, complications, and pleasures faced in these tasks. From these reflections, the book serves as a guide through this highly personal, complex, and meaningful experience and helps readers consider the many different meanings of being a candidate in a psychanalytic institute. Perfect for candidates and psychoanalytic educators, this book inspires analysts at all levels to think, once again, about this impossible but fascinating profession and to consider their own psychoanalytic development.
