Et si le langage des bébés était à portée de mains? C'est à partir de ce postulat que sont nées des méthodes de communication gestuelle destinées aux jeunes enfants normo-entendants. Celles ci préconisent l'utilisation de signes ajoutés à la parole. Il s'agit pour l'environnement proche de ponctuer la parole par des signes avec des enfants d'âge préverbal. En effet, l'enfant serait capable d'effectuer des signes avant de savoir articuler les mots, et cela lui permettrait donc d'exprimer ses besoins et de communiquer de façon précoce. Les études sur le sujet sont peu nombreuses, notamment dans le champ de l'orthophonie. C'est pourquoi nous proposons dans ce mémoire d'étudier les apports de l'utilisation des signes pour bébés auprès d'enfants accueillis en crèche. Pour cela, nous avons observé parallèlement le développement d'enfants accueillis en crèches « classiques » et en crèches utilisant les signes. L'apport d'un regard orthophonique sur cette méthode nous a permis d'en étudier l'intérêt dans le cadre de la prévention des troubles du langage.
