Book Description
A set of FORTRAN functions and subroutines has been written to facilitate calculations, using matrix techniques, of the first order properties of ion-optical systems for particle accelerators. These functions and subroutines generate matrices for various magnetic elements used in ion-optical systems and also program various matrix manipulations. A subroutine to calculate the strength of magnetic quadrupoles required to achieve prescribed focal conditions is available. Functions used to calculate the maximum excursion of a particle trajectory from the optic axis in a magnetic element, to calculate the waist of a particle beam if the emittance satisfies certain conditions, and to calculate the location of the focal plane for an arbitrary ion-optical arrangement have been written. Programs can be written, using these functions and subroutines, to calculate the properties of particular ion-optical systems. Illustrative coding shows how such programs are written. (Author).

Book Description
Attitude Dynamics and Control of Space Debris During Ion Beam Transportation provides an overview of the cutting-edge research around the topic of contactless ion beam transportation for the removal of space debris. This practical guide covers topics such as space debris attitude motion, the motion of rigid materials in an inhomogeneous high-speed rarefied medium, gravity gradient torque, and more. The book examines and compares the various ways to control the spatial motion of space debris, such as engine thrust or altering the direction of the ion beam axis, and offers simple mathematical models for analyzing system behaviors. - Provides insight on the features, advantages, and disadvantages of contactless ion beam transportation of space debris - Demonstrates how classical mechanics, nonlinear and chaotic dynamics, and methods of stability theory are applied during the ion beam method - Includes simple mathematical models describing the behavior of the considered mechanical system, allowing the reader to understand the nature of the studied phenomenon

Book Description
This book provides a brief exposition of the principles of beam physics and particle accelerators with an emphasis on numerical examples employing readily available computer tools. However, it avoids detailed derivations, instead inviting the reader to use general high-end languages such as Mathcad and Matlab, as well as specialized particle accelerator codes (e.g. MAD, WinAgile, Elegant, and others) to explore the principles presented. This approach allows readers to readily identify relevant design parameters and their scaling. In addition, the computer input files can serve as templates that can be easily adapted to other related situations. The examples and computer exercises comprise basic lenses and deflectors, fringe fields, lattice and beam functions, synchrotron radiation, beam envelope matching, betatron resonances, and transverse and longitudinal emittance and space charge. The last chapter presents examples of two major types of particle accelerators: radio frequency linear accelerators (RF linacs) and storage rings. Lastly, the appendix gives readers a brief description of the computer tools employed and concise instructions for their installation and use in the most popular computer platforms (Windows, Macintosh and Ubuntu Linux). Hyperlinks to websites containing all relevant files are also included. An essential component of the book is its website (actually part of the author's website at the University of Maryland), which contains the files that reproduce results given in the text as well as additional material such as technical notes and movies.

Book Description
This volume comprises the proceedings of the 8th Joint School on accelerator physics. On this occasion, the US, CERN, Japan and Russia Particle Accelerator Schools collaborated to present the topic "Beam Measurements." The aim was to provide an introduction to the principles of beam dynamics and measurements in circular particle accelerators. This was achieved by a series of lectures under the heading of "single-particle dynamics," "beam measurements" and then "multi-particle dynamics," along with practical courses on feedback and data processing, maps and simulation, diagnostic and microwave measurements. The resulting proceedings represent a unique summary of the currently available knowledge on beam measurements applied to circular particle accelerators.
