Book Description
We are concerned with the plasma wave radiations and turbulence, generated by natural or artificially produced charged beams and currents or plasma anisotropy, in the Earth's ionosphere and magnetosphere--particularly in the topside ionosphere and the suprauroral region. Specific problems studied during the three-year contract period include: ion conics and beams, lower hybrid waves and hybrid whistlers, nonlinear electrostatic ion cyclotron waves and cavitations, the beam-plasma-discharge phenomenon, strong plasma turbulence, electrostatic shocks across auroral field lines, particle-acceleration mechanisms, collisional effects, and anisotropy-driven magnetic reconnection processes. Major research contributions are described in detail in theis report. Complete lists of the titles of scientific publications and technical professional and technical presentations sponsored by this contract are also given, and important related professional activities are outlined.

Book Description
In the last few years the physics of turbulent plasma has undergone rapid development, beginning with the first works, in which the term "turbulence" was used in various ways, and ending with the fundamental studies which provide a thorough examina tion of the turbulent state of plasma. In physics it is usually found that value is not so much contained in specific results for a partic ular field as it is in the more general outlook and overall view of the problem. Occasionally the older results take on new mean ing after the general view of things is perfected. In the case of the physics of turbulent plasma, this general picture is now com plete, for the most part. The first review devoted to the problem of plasma turbulence was written by B. B. Kadomtsev [in "Problems in Plasma Theory," edited by M. A. Leontovich, Volume 4, Moscow, Atomizdat (1964), p. 188; English Translation: "Plasma Turbulence," Academic Press, London (1965)].

Book Description
Over the years, many leading European graduate schools in the field of astrophysical and space plasmas have operated within the framework of the research network, "Theory, Observations, and Simulations in Turbulence in Space Plasmas." This text is a set of lectures and tutorial reviews culled from the relevant work of all those schools. It emphasizes applications on solar coronae, solar flares, and the solar wind. In bridging the gap between standard textbook material and state-of-the-art research, this text offers a broad flavor to postgraduate and postdoctoral students just coming to the field. And because of its unique mix, it will also be useful to lecturers looking for advanced teaching material for their seminars and courses.

Book Description
This book is based on the lectures delivered at the 19th Canberra International Physics Summer School held at the Australian National University in Canberra (Australia) in January 2006.The problem of turbulence and coherent structures is of key importance in many fields of science and engineering. It is an area which is vigorously researched across a diverse range of disciplines such as theoretical physics, oceanography, atmospheric science, magnetically confined plasma, nonlinear optics, etc. Modern studies in turbulence and coherent structures are based on a variety of theoretical concepts, numerical simulation techniques and experimental methods, which cannot be reviewed effectively by a single expert. The main goal of these lecture notes is to introduce state-of-the-art turbulence research in a variety of approaches (theoretical, numerical simulations and experiments) and applications (fluids, plasmas, geophysics, nonlinear optical media) by several experts. A smooth introduction is presented to readers who are not familiar with the field, while reviewing the most recent advances in the area. This collection of lectures will provide a useful review for both postgraduate students and researchers new to the advancements in this field, as well as specialists seeking to expand their knowledge across different areas of turbulence research.

Book Description
Dynamics of astrophysical systems is often described by plasma physics, yet understanding the nature of plasma turbulence remains as a challenge in physics in both theories and experiments. This book is an up-to-date summary and review of recent results in research on waves and turbulence in near-Earth space plasma turbulence, obtained by Cluster, the multi-spacecraft mission. Spatial and temporal structures of solar wind turbulence as well as its interaction with the bow shock ahead of the Earth are presented using Cluster data. The book presents (1) historical developments, (2) theoretical background of plasma physics, turbulence theories, and the plasma physical picture of the solar system, (3) analysis methods for multi-spacecraft data, (4) results of Cluster data analysis, and (5) impacts on astrophysics and Earth sciences.

Book Description
The behavior of organized groups of particles in a plasma has been studied to determine the effects of the scattering and diffusion of these particles on the plasma. In one experiment the particle group was an electron beam injected into a neutral gas thereby producing ionization and turbulent effects. Energy and spectral analysis of the beam particles and plasma turbulence are presented. In another experiment the particle group consisted of the plasma electrons gyrating at the upper hybrid frequency. The scattering of radiation from a column of such a magnetoplasma was studied. Amplitude and spectral measurements have been correlated with an improved theoretical model. (Author).
