Book Description
This book emerged due to the lack of references in the community about basic things using finite element method software LS-DYNA and LS-PrePost. Whereas lots of engineering cases that can be solved using this software. The main highlight of this book is the cases that involve large deformations such as a crash-box of vehicles or an impact of bullets. These analyses can be applied in unlimited topic such as transportation, aircraft, defense, and so on. For example in defense application, this simulations can be used to design bullet protection plate and also evaluate the anti-ballistic performance without doing experiments that are usually very expensive and time-consuming. Therefore, with this simulation, we can carry out the design process more cheaply and faster. This book contains detailed procedures for using LS-DYNA and LS-PrePost for cases of low speed collisions such as crash-box impact up to high speed impact of a bullet. Cases such as armor for combat vehicles to military standard buildings can use the method described in this book. Other cases such as the bullet tip design can also be evaluated. Thus, the method in this book can also be adopted for other, broader analyses.

The Finite Element Method: Theory, Implementation, and Applications
Author: Mats G. Larson
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642332870
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 403
Book Description
This book gives an introduction to the finite element method as a general computational method for solving partial differential equations approximately. Our approach is mathematical in nature with a strong focus on the underlying mathematical principles, such as approximation properties of piecewise polynomial spaces, and variational formulations of partial differential equations, but with a minimum level of advanced mathematical machinery from functional analysis and partial differential equations. In principle, the material should be accessible to students with only knowledge of calculus of several variables, basic partial differential equations, and linear algebra, as the necessary concepts from more advanced analysis are introduced when needed. Throughout the text we emphasize implementation of the involved algorithms, and have therefore mixed mathematical theory with concrete computer code using the numerical software MATLAB is and its PDE-Toolbox. We have also had the ambition to cover some of the most important applications of finite elements and the basic finite element methods developed for those applications, including diffusion and transport phenomena, solid and fluid mechanics, and also electromagnetics.

TEXTBOOK OF FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS
Author: P. SESHU
Publisher: PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.
ISBN: 8120323157
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 340
Book Description
Designed for a one-semester course in Finite Element Method, this compact and well-organized text presents FEM as a tool to find approximate solutions to differential equations. This provides the student a better perspective on the technique and its wide range of applications. This approach reflects the current trend as the present-day applications range from structures to biomechanics to electromagnetics, unlike in conventional texts that view FEM primarily as an extension of matrix methods of structural analysis. After an introduction and a review of mathematical preliminaries, the book gives a detailed discussion on FEM as a technique for solving differential equations and variational formulation of FEM. This is followed by a lucid presentation of one-dimensional and two-dimensional finite elements and finite element formulation for dynamics. The book concludes with some case studies that focus on industrial problems and Appendices that include mini-project topics based on near-real-life problems. Postgraduate/Senior undergraduate students of civil, mechanical and aeronautical engineering will find this text extremely useful; it will also appeal to the practising engineers and the teaching community.

Finite Element Applications
Author: Michael Okereke
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319671251
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 488
Book Description
This textbook demonstrates the application of the finite element philosophy to the solution of real-world problems and is aimed at graduate level students, but is also suitable for advanced undergraduate students. An essential part of an engineer’s training is the development of the skills necessary to analyse and predict the behaviour of engineering systems under a wide range of potentially complex loading conditions. Only a small proportion of real-life problems can be solved analytically, and consequently, there arises the need to be able to use numerical methods capable of simulating real phenomena accurately. The finite element (FE) method is one such widely used numerical method. Finite Element Applications begins with demystifying the ‘black box’ of finite element solvers and progresses to addressing the different pillars that make up a robust finite element solution framework. These pillars include: domain creation, mesh generation and element formulations, boundary conditions, and material response considerations. Readers of this book will be equipped with the ability to develop models of real-world problems using industry-standard finite element packages.

Mechanics of Composite Materials with MATLAB
Author: George Z Voyiadjis
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3540277102
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 338
Book Description
This is a book for people who love mechanics of composite materials and ? MATLAB . We will use the popular computer package MATLAB as a matrix calculator for doing the numerical calculations needed in mechanics of c- posite materials. In particular, the steps of the mechanical calculations will be emphasized in this book. The reader will not ?nd ready-made MATLAB programs for use as black boxes. Instead step-by-step solutions of composite material mechanics problems are examined in detail using MATLAB. All the problems in the book assume linear elastic behavior in structural mechanics. The emphasis is not on mass computations or programming, but rather on learning the composite material mechanics computations and understanding of the underlying concepts. The basic aspects of the mechanics of ?ber-reinforced composite materials are covered in this book. This includes lamina analysis in both the local and global coordinate systems, laminate analysis, and failure theories of a lamina.
