Excerpt from Barnard's Seeds, Bulbs, Shrubs, 1920 Sow the seed one inch-deep as early in the spring as' ground can be worked, and for succession, every two weeks after up to the first of July, in drills twelve to fourteen inches apart, and when well up thin to from four to six inches. The young plants removed in thinning are excellent cooked in the same manner as spinach. Take up the roots in 'october and store in cellar like potatoes. Covered with sand they will keep in nice, tender condition for winter use. One ounce will sow 50 feet of drill; 5 to 6 pounds are required for an acre.
