Book Description
Self-concept and coping behaviour are important aspects of development in adolescence. Despite their developmental significance, however, the two areas have rarely been considered in relation to each other. This book is the first in which the two areas are brought together; it suggests that this interaction can open the way to new possibilities for further research and to new implications for applied work with adolescents. Two separate chapters review research carried out in each of the areas. These are followed by a series of more empirically focussed chapters in which issues such as changes in relationship patterns, difficult school situations, leaving school, use of leisure, anxiety and suicidal behaviour are examined in the context of self-concept and coping. The final chapter seeks to identify some of the central themes emerging from this work and discusses possible research and applied implications.

Book Description
This volume contains the proceedings of the second workshop on Computer Aided Verification, held at DIMACS, Rutgers University, June 18-21, 1990. Itfeatures theoretical results that lead to new or more powerful verification methods. Among these are advances in the use of binary decision diagrams, dense time, reductions based upon partial order representations and proof-checking in controller verification. The motivation for holding a workshop on computer aided verification was to bring together work on effective algorithms or methodologies for formal verification - as distinguished, say, from attributes of logics or formal languages. The considerable interest generated by the first workshop, held in Grenoble, June 1989 (see LNCS 407), prompted this second meeting. The general focus of this volume is on the problem of making formal verification feasible for various models of computation. Specific emphasis is on models associated with distributed programs, protocols, and digital circuits. The general test of algorithm feasibility is to embed it into a verification tool, and exercise that tool on realistic examples: the workshop included sessionsfor the demonstration of new verification tools.

Book Description
This volume contains the proceedings of the 13th Colloquium on Trees in Algebra and Programming (CAAP '88), held in Nancy, March 21-24, 1988. The preceding 12 colloquia were held in France, Italy and Germany. CAAP '85 and CAAP '87 were integrated into the International Joint Conference on Theory and Practice of Software Development, TAPSOFT (see Lecture Notes in Computer Science volumes 185 and 249). As another effort to link theory and practice in computer science, CAAP '88 was held in conjunction with the European Symposium on Programming, ESOP '88 (see volume 300 of this Lecture Notes series). CAAP '88 is a conference in the area of program development and programming concepts but, following the tradition, is devoted to theoretical aspects, and especially to Trees, a basic structure of computer science. A wider range of topics in theoretical computer science is also covered. The papers are on word, tree or graph languages, with algorithmic or complexity studies, on abstract data types (another classical topic of CAAP) and/or term rewriting systems and on non-standard logics, and parallelism and concurrency.

Book Description
Computer-Aided Verification is a collection of papers that begins with a general survey of hardware verification methods. Ms. Gupta starts with the issue of verification itself and develops a taxonomy of verification methodologies, focusing especially upon recent advances. Although her emphasis is hardware verification, most of what she reports applies to software verification as well. Graphical presentation is coming to be a de facto requirement for a `friendly' user interface. The second paper presents a generic format for graphical presentations of coordinating systems represented by automata. The last two papers as a pair, present a variety of generic techniques for reducing the computational cost of computer-aided verification based upon explicit computational memory: the first of the two gives a time-space trade-off, while the second gives a technique which trades space for a (sometimes predictable) probability of error. Computer-Aided Verification is an edited volume of original research. This research work has also been published as a special issue of the journal Formal Methods in System Design, 1:2-3.

Book Description
The biannual Formal Methods in Computer Aided Design conference (FMCAD 2000)is the third in a series of conferences under that title devoted to the use of discrete mathematical methods for the analysis of computer hardware and so- ware. The work reported in this book describes the use of modeling languages and their associated automated analysis tools to specify and verify computing systems. Functional veric ation has become one of the principal costs in a modern computer design e ort. In addition, verica tion of circuit models, timing, power, etc., requires even more eo rt. FMCAD provides a venue for academic and - dustrial researchers and practitioners to share their ideas and experiences of using discrete mathematical modeling and veric ation. It is noted with interest by the conference chairmen how this area has grown from just a few people 15 years ago to a vibrant area of research, development, and deployment. It is clear that these methods are helping reduce the cost of designing computing systems. As an example of this potential cost reduction, we have invited David Russino of Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. to describe his veric ation of ?oating-point - gorithms being used in AMD microprocessors. The program includes 30 regular presentations selected from 63 submitted papers.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Algebraic Methodology and Software Engineering, AMAST'97, held in Sydney, Australia, in December 1997. The volume presents 48 revised full papers selected from an unusually high number of submissions. One of the outstanding features of AMAST is its mix of serious mathematical development of formal methods in software engineering with practical concerns, tools, case studies, and industrial development. The volume addresses all current aspects of formal methods in software engineering and programming methodology, with a certain emphasis on algebraic and logical foundations.

Book Description
The main idea behind the series of volumes Advances in Petri Nets is to present to the general computer science community recent results which are the most representative and significant for the development of the area. Thepapers for the volumes are drawn mainly from the annual International Conferences on Applications and Theory of Petri Nets. Selected papers from the latest conference are independently refereed, and revised and extended as necessary. Some further papers submitted directly to the editor are included. Advances in Petri Nets 1991 covers the 11th International Conference on Applications and Theory of Petri Nets held in Paris, France in June 1991. The volume contains the Bibliography of Petri Nets 1990 prepared by H. Pl}nnecke and W. Reisig, with over 4000 entries.
