Young love at the lake sounds like fun but add in a few twists and turns and it becomes so much more. Heartbroken after being abandoned by her first love, Augusta Ackermann is determined to spend the summer at a lakeside cottage. Alone with her misery, Augie expects to pass the months in solitude. Her goals for the summer take an interesting turn after a chance meeting with a handsome and intriguing neighbor. Rex Grieve, recently graduated from an elite school for the blind and feels a virtual prisoner in his parents’ lavish new lakeside mansion. Rex’s sole escape is his music, but that changes in an instant when he meets Augie. When Augie impulsively sends Rex a poem expressing her admiration by comparing him to a famous blind character from literature, Rex gently chides her. This chiding turns into a brisk punishment to help Augie atone for her literary sins, and the young couple discover they both enjoy exploring sensual submission and discipline. However, just as their young love is blossoming, it’s threatened by a predatory neighbor who assumes Rex isn’t capable of coming to Augie’s rescue. Will the strength of the growing bond between Rex and Augie save her from peril and will it give Rex the courage to plot an escape from his domineering parents? This is book one in the Lakeside Lovers series and has a happily ever after.

A Southern Soldier's Letters Home
Author: Samuel Augustus Burney
Publisher: Mercer University Press
ISBN: 9780865548169
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 340
Book Description
Samuel A. Burney, born in April 1840, was the son of Thomas Jefferson Burney and Julia Shields Burney. He graduated from Mercer University (then at Penfield, Georgia) in 1860. He joined the Panola Guards, an infantry component of Thomas R. R. Cobb's Georgia Legion, in July 1861. For the next four years he served in the Army of Northern Virginia both in Virginia and in Tennessee. Burney was wounded at Chancellorsville in May 1863, and as a result of his wound he was placed in disability in March 1864 and served the remainder of the war on commissary duty in southwest Georgia. After the war, Burney returned to Mercer's school of theology, was ordained into the Baptist ministry, and served as pastor of several churches in Morgan County. He was pastor of the Madison Baptist Church until shortly before his death in 1896. These letters of a college graduate written to his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Shepherd Burney are lyrical and beautifully written. Burney describes battles, camp life, theology, and the day-to-day dreariness of life in the army. This is an astounding collection of letters for anyone interested in the Civil War, or the South.

1920 Dystopian Science Fiction, Alternative History ""He can talk it,"" said my playmates who attended the public schools where all teaching of the language of the outcast nation was prohibited. They invariably elected me to be ""the Germans,"" and locked me up in the old garage while they rained a stock of sun-dried clay bombs upon the roof and then came with a rush to ""batter down the walls of Berlin"" by breaking in the door, while I, muttering strange guttural oaths, would be led forth to be ""exterminated."" On rainy days I would sometimes take my favoured playmates into my uncle's library where five great maps hung in ordered sequence on the panelled wall.... The fourth map was the most fascinating and terrible. Again the black of autocracy appeared, obliterating the red of the Brotherhood of Man, spreading across half of Eurasia and thrusting a broad black shadow to the Yellow Sea and a lesser one to the Persian Gulf... and lines of dotted white retreated in concentric waves till...
