Book Description
Three Belgian researchers (U. of Liege) look at one unified approach to on-line dynamic security assessment and control to enable a power system to withstand unexpected contingencies without experiencing voltage or transient instabilities. The problem has greatly increased since deregulation, when utilities are being operated much closer to their limits in order to generate private profit. Their approach is called Single Machine Equivalent, SIME to its friends, and is a hybrid direct-temporal method that processes information about the system behavior in order to get one-shot stability assessment in the same way as direct methods. Preventative SIME relies on time-domain programs to get information about simulated stability scenarios of anticipated contingencies, and emergency SIME uses real-time measurements that take into account the actual occurrence of a contingency. Book Description
A comprehensive introduction to mathematical structures essential for Rough Set Theory. The book enables the reader to systematically study all topics of rough set theory. After a detailed introduction in Part 1 along with an extensive bibliography of current research papers. Part 2 presents a self-contained study that brings together all the relevant information from respective areas of mathematics and logics. Part 3 provides an overall picture of theoretical developments in rough set theory, covering logical, algebraic, and topological methods. Topics covered include: algebraic theory of approximation spaces, logical and set-theoretical approaches to indiscernibility and functional dependence, topological spaces of rough sets. The final part gives a unique view on mutual relations between fuzzy and rough set theories (rough fuzzy and fuzzy rough sets). Over 300 excercises allow the reader to master the topics considered. The book can be used as a textbook and as a reference work.

Book Description
Classical and Recent Aspects of Power System Optimization presents conventional and meta-heuristic optimization methods and algorithms for power system studies. The classic aspects of optimization in power systems, such as optimal power flow, economic dispatch, unit commitment and power quality optimization are covered, as are issues relating to distributed generation sizing, allocation problems, scheduling of renewable resources, energy storage, power reserve based problems, efficient use of smart grid capabilities, and protection studies in modern power systems. The book brings together innovative research outcomes, programs, algorithms and approaches that consolidate the present state and future challenges for power. Analyzes and compares several aspects of optimization for power systems which has never been addressed in one reference Details real-life industry application examples for each chapter (e.g. energy storage and power reserve problems) Provides practical training on theoretical developments and application of advanced methods for optimum electrical energy for realistic engineering problems

Book Description
Computational Intelligence with its roots in Fuzzy Logic, Neural Networks and Evolutionary Algorithms has become an important research and application field in computer science in the last decade. Methodologies from these areas and combinations of them enable users from engineering, business, medicine and many more branches to capture and process vague, incomplete, uncertain and imprecise data and knowledge. Many algorithms and tools have been developed to solve problems in the realms of high and low level control, information processing, diagnostics, decision support, classification, optimisation and many more. This book tries to show the impact and feedback between theory and applications of Computational Intelligence, highlighted on selected examples.
