Yo a mi escuela y a mis estudiantes Mis estudiantes son como velas que vienen en diferentes medidas, colores, y formas pero todos tienen la capacidad para alumbrar y aprender. A su edad, ellos están cambiando cada dia y sus estados de ánimo varía de momento a momento. Ellos llegan con una gran variedad de habilidades y conocimiento de las matemáticas, y con diferentes estilos de aprendizaje. Yo he sido maestro de matemáticas a nivel secundaria por más de quince años y me encanta. Sin embargo, no fue amor a primera vista. Mi vida como educador comenzó en 1969 enseñando Arquitectura a nivel universitario en México. Después de emigrar a los Estados Unidos trabajando en el sector privado , hice otro cambio de carrera. Cuando yo comencé a enseñar al nivel de escuela secundaria, estaba muy motivado y entusiasmado; tomé el libro de texto que me fue dado por la escuela y empecé a revisar los diferentes capítulos de acuerdo a la currícula y pensé que estaba haciendo mi mejor esfuerzo para hacer la diferencia en la vida de mis estudiantes. Muy pronto descubrí que muchos de mis estudiantes venían a la clase con muy pobres habilidades matemáticas . Ellos tenían dificultad para entender la información básica en el libro y se quejaban de estar aburridos. Los resultados de los examenes mostraban que no estaban aprendiendo mucho. Después de reflexionar en el problema, decidí hacer un cambio en mi forma de enseñar y comencé a escribir las lecciones que ahora son parte de "APRENDIENDO MATEMÁTICAS A TRAVÉS DE LAS ARTES VISUALES Y LOS PROYECTOS MANUALES". Para mi sorpresa, la situación en mis clases comenzó a cambiar. Mis estudiantes estaban felices de venir a mis clases. Ellos se mostraron interesados, su comportamiento mejoró, pero mas importante ¡ellos estaban aprendiendo! Los proyectos en este libro los he desarrollado y refinado durante mis años enseñando. Cada proyecto refleja mi entrenamiento en artes visuales y escultura que recibí como Arquitecto. Los he usado y continúo usando en mis clases ¡y funcionan! Yo escribí este libro para mis estudiantes, porque creo firmemente que el conocimiento de de las matemáticas es la llave para el exito de su futuro académico. Javier S.
