Book Description
This International Institute of Welding (IIW) report was presented at the 52nd Annual Assembly in Lisbon in June 1999. It contains recommendations representing a consensus on international best practice, focusing on a 'hot spot stress' approach.A wide range of joint types is covered, the new fatigue design curve for both RHS and CHS is dealt with and detailed values for stress concentration factors are provided. The purpose of this current IIW document is to serve both as an International Standards Organisation (ISO) draft specification and as a model standard for national and regional specifications worldwide. The Recommendations (Part one) and Commentary (Part two) were edited by Dr X-L Zhao of Monash University, Australia and Professor J A Packer of the University of Toronto, Canada.

Book Description
Weld symbols on drawings was originally published in 1982 based on BS 499 (British Standards Institution 1980), ISO 2553 (International Standards Organisation 1979) and ANSI/AWS A2.4 (American Welding Society-1979) standards. These standards have been through numerous revisions over the last few years; and the current standards are ISO 2553 1992, BSEN 22553 1995, and ANSI/AWS A2.4 1998. The American system of symbolisation is currently used by approximately half of the world's industry. Most of the rest of the world use ISO. The British system was standardised in 1933 and the latest of five revisions was published in 1995 as BSEN 22553, which is identical to ISO 2553. For many years an ISO committee has been working on combining ISO and AWS to create a combined worldwide standard, but while discussions continue this could take many years to achieve. This contemporary book provides an up-to-date review on the application of ISO and AWS standards and a comparison between them. Many thousands of engineering drawings are currently in use, which have symbols and methods of representation from superseded standards. The current European and ISO standards and the American standard are substantially similar, but the ANSI/AWS standard includes some additional symbols and also symbols for non-destructive testing. Although symbols in the different standards are similar, the arrows showing locations of welds are different, these important differences are explained. ISO contains limited information on brazed or soldered joints these are covered in ANSI/AWS. Some examples of the application of welding symbols are also included. - Important differences of welding symbols for different standards are explained - Provides up to date information on the ISO and AWS standards and their comparison - Contains examples of the application of welded symbols

Book Description
This book helps designers and manufacturers to select and develop the most suitable and competitive steel structures, which are safe, fit for production and economic. An optimum design system is used to find the best characteristics of structural models, which guarantee the fulfilment of design and fabrication requirements and minimize the cost function. Realistic numerical models are used as main components of industrial steel structures. Chapter 1 containts some experiences with the optimum design of steel structures Chapter 2 treats some newer mathematical optimization methods. Chapter 3 gives formulae for fabrication times and costs. Chapters 4 deals with beams and columns. Summarizes the Eurocode rules for design. Chapter 5 deals with the design of tubular trusses. Chapter 6 gives the design of frame structures and fire-resistant design rules for a frame. In Chapters 7 some minimum cost design problems of stiffened and cellular plates and shells are worked out for cases of different stiffenings and loads. Chapter 8 gives a cost comparison of cylindrical and conical shells. The book contains a large collection of literatures and a subject list and a name index.

Book Description
Classic, comprehensive, and up-to-date Metal Fatigue in Engineering Second Edition For twenty years, Metal Fatigue in Engineering has served as an important textbook and reference for students and practicing engineers concerned with the design, development, and failure analysis of components, structures, and vehicles subjected to repeated loading. Now this generously revised and expanded edition retains the best features of the original while bringing it up to date with the latest developments in the field. As with the First Edition, this book focuses on applied engineering design, with a view to producing products that are safe, reliable, and economical. It offers in-depth coverage of today's most common analytical methods of fatigue design and fatigue life predictions/estimations for metals. Contents are arranged logically, moving from simple to more complex fatigue loading and conditions. Throughout the book, there is a full range of helpful learning aids, including worked examples and hundreds of problems, references, and figures as well as chapter summaries and "design do's and don'ts" sections to help speed and reinforce understanding of the material. The Second Edition contains a vast amount of new information, including: * Enhanced coverage of micro/macro fatigue mechanisms, notch strain analysis, fatigue crack growth at notches, residual stresses, digital prototyping, and fatigue design of weldments * Nonproportional loading and critical plane approaches for multiaxial fatigue * A new chapter on statistical aspects of fatigue
